New Show!
Posted by Aarti on January 18th, 2012 . Filed under: Uncategorized .I haven’t had a chance to tackle any of your excellent ideas of things to write about here. I miss how good my writing used to be! Bren and I were just talking about that yesterday… about how we both used to write on a daily basis, and how easily the words flowed onto the “page”. Now it takes so much longer to write half of what I used to write.
So if you’re in the habit of writing now, DON’T STOP!
In other news, I’m sick. My friend and I went out to dinner on Saturday, and we both succumbed to stomach flu (or at least that’s what we think it is) on MONDAY. I’ve been nauseous ever since, with a pretty menacing headache. It has left me feeling pretty useless. I had a burst of energy yesterday, and since my nausea had simmered down, I ate some vegetables for dinner. Think that was a mistake. Feeling bad again today.
This kind of sickness is pretty much just annoying. I can’t get up and do anything because moving around makes the nausea worse, but I’m not really that tired, so I don’t want to sleep, no matter how much Bren tells me to. With the headache though, I have a hard time concentrating on doing much, so working at the computer is kind of out.
Wah wah wah. I know. :)
In yet MORE other news, my new show debuts on Cooking Channel this Saturday! It’s called Drop 5 lbs — you may know the column in Good Housekeeping Magazine of the same name. Melissa D’Arabian is hosting, along with me, Samantha Cassety (Good Housekeeping Nutrition Expert) and my dear friend Ashley Borden whom I’ve known for years. She’s trained folks as varied as Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, MMA fighter Matt Hughes, and hold on to your knickers, Ryan Gosling. But I am most impressed with the work she does with folks who probably haven’t hit the gym in a long while; she was the first person to look at me and say, I totally believe that you can lose the weight you want to lose. I believe in you. It made such a difference. Love her.
Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect. Set your DVRs! This Saturday!

One more reason to be disappointed that we don’t get the Cooking Channel
What does this mean for Aarti Party? – I’m hoping a new season comes back sooner rather than later! And as for your weight, how much do you want to lose? (don’t lose too many of your great curves!) I hope you’ll keep us posted on your progress and success, and pass along what tips are working for you! Xx

Aarti!
I’m sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Don’t feel like you have to apologize for expressing yourself. If you feel sick, it’s good to let people know so we have an idea of what is going on. After all, it is your blog. I like to read about your personal experiences. I don’t have to be entertained by every post. Sometimes, I just want to know what is going on in your world. This way, I can relate to you.
It sounds like you ate something that didn’t agree with you. At the risk of sounding repetitive, you may want to check out Dr. Bruce Fife’s books. He is a naturopath and has many excellent tips for getting well.
I’ll be praying for you to feel better soon.
Blessings,
Rachel

I look forward to watching your new show. Some research on the nutritionist you mention, though, shows she’s a defender of the status quo, the idea that grains, whole in this case, are healthy for you, that eating fat makes you fat etc. How long must society suffer with this outdated ‘wisdom’? I found an article she wrote and some of the stuff is right on, about omega-3s and chronic inflammation, some was close but just short of being helpful to people.
Is it so much to ask for the food network/cooking channel to have a show that focuses on paleo nutrition? This is going to be the next trend, so at the very least you’d think they’d want to cash in on that, if not the benefits of helping people be healthy. Why a trend? The same reason pants having pockets was a trend and cars having windshield wipers was a trend. It just makes sense once you try it. Protein and fat result in satiety. Protein and fat have minimal effects on insulin. What’s old is new again, old as in what humans evolved eating for millennia before the agricultural revolution 10,000 years ago. Look up Gary Taubes, or Jonny Bowden, or Dr. Eades (either one), or Loren Cordain, or Tom Naughton with his documentary Fat Head, or any nutritionist that does not get paid to defend the received wisdom that has resulted in 1/3 of people being obese.
Sorry to rant, Aarti. I love your style and so does my gf. You’re our favorite tv chef. If you could make some low-carb naan I’ll put a big smile on my face
Best of luck on your new show.

I’m not feeling so hot today either, so watching your show in bed tomorrow sounds like a perfect Sunday. Get well soon!

This is off topic, but I simply had to write. I saw one of your shows on veggies. I was so impressed with a comment you made. The gist was that trying to make veggie dishes to taste like their meat counterparts was not going to happen, but to enjoy the dishes you can create with the veggies. I have to tell you that I have been struggling with going vegan for my health for a while now. Being a Texas girl (all things beef), this has not been an easy choice. Long story short, I have diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. and 56 years old. I tried going vegan before, but got caught up in all things vegan made to resemble or replace their meat counterparts. Well, exchanging one bad habit for another was not working. After hearing your comment, I just wanted you to know that that was my ephiphany. Thanks bunches. I look forward to more veggie episodes.
