And I love the new definition of “work” for me.
I “worked” at the Los Angeles Times’ first ever Food and Wine celebration.
I got to sample food from some of LA’s best restaurants, wineries and food trucks… for free.
I got to sign recipe cards with my photo on ‘em, and meet hundreds of you guys who made me feel so loved and appreciated.
And… AND… I got to sit next to REE!!!!!
AHAHAHHAHHHHHHH! REE! The woman behind one of the best blogs on the net, The Pioneer Woman. I literally blog the way I blog because of Ree. This woman’s sense of humour, gorgeous photography and dedication to blogging whilst homeschooling her 4 kids, tending to a working cattle ranch, doing all their laundry and generally being Supermum is nothing short of astounding. Especially when her outfits, manicure and makeup are impeccable.
Yup, I’m just that superficial. I was checking out her manicure. Ha! My nails are SUCH a mess. In fact, I think it’s time for a home pedicure. Yup. Maybe a cup of rooibos chai too. And heck, while I’m at it, an episode of my new favourite show, Rescue Me, wouldn’t go amiss. (I know, I know… it’s an old show. But we’ve been catching up through Netflix.)

p.s. thank you to the incredibly sweet and generous Rene Lynch from the LA Times; I used to run to the driveway to read what she wrote every Wednesday in the Times’ Food section. Really. What a weird life where now I get to talk to her face to face… about ME!

What am I doing today? Nothing as interesting as you! I am organizing my hobby room after dropping hubby at the airport so he can head back to Dutch Harbor, AK for pollock fishing. Everyone is having more fun than me! LOL

How exciting! I love Pioneer Woman too! I’ve been reading her blog for a few years now, and I so much enjoy the way she blogs (and her pictures make me want to be right there!).
My husband and I watched Food Network Star from the very beginning, and I have to say, you are the only one I liked consistently. I was so excited you won and I watch your show every week! I love to cook, especially foods from around the world, but I’ve never had the courage to try Indian. Now I have you to show me how! All the recipes I’ve tried have been amazing, but I’m a sucker for chocolate, so the chocolate and ginger pie is the one I can’t stop eating.

It was fantastic to see you yesterday at the festival! You are so inspirational to a start-up blogger and I just loved watching you on the Next Food Network Star. Your warmth and enthusiasm came through as much in person as it did on the show and it’s great to see someone as real as you “make it.”

Love your show Aarti! My 11-yr-old daughter loves the cultural tidbits you mention, makes geography easier for her when she can hear about how people live and what they eat!
I love PW also, she’s a great cook as well. Wish I could’ve seen the two of you together!
I’ve been catching up on old shows thru Netflix as well – my old favorite show “ER”. Been a long time since I’ve seen it!

Aarti, you beat me to it! I wanted to gush about you, but I had to fly home to Oklahoma first. You’re beautiful inside and out, and beyond talented. And you saw me on the one day a year that my nails didn’t look disgusting. I got a manicure the night before because I had mud (chocolate? yes, I’ll go with chocolate) under my nails!
You’re an asset to the internet, television, and the world. Love to you, sweetie.

Aarti, you are just the cutest, sweetest, awesome-est (yes, awesome-EST) person I’ve stumbled upon in the TV world! I cheered for you the whole way through NFNS and was ecstatic when you won! You TOTALLY deserved it, by the way!
On a side note, I spent yesterday watching the original Aarti Paarti shows and you are, single-handedly, responsible for making me want to move to California!

Aarti, I was going to say “News flash: I toggle between your blog and P-Dub all the time. ALL the time. Literally every day, I check one of you, then the other.” But then, it seems, that P-DUB HERSELF already told you how fabulous you are! As a new food blogger, I follow both of you and find you both fabulous.
PS- Does it make me cool that I read the same blog as P-dub (ie: yours?) or that I read the same blog as Aarti (ie: hers?)

AHHH! is right! I wish I lived in L.A. and could have seen you both. My husband laughs at me because I refer to you both by your first names like we are old friends (in my mind we are, because I have been following both of your blogs for a good long time now). I was so excited when you got your show. The world needs to know how to use Indian spices! We LOVE us some Indian food!! Definitely our favorite! Ree should host one of her weekend getaways at The Lodge featuring you and your Indian cooking!

I spent the day at the mall with my husband and kids – and just had Starbuck’s salted caramel hot chocolate – yum! But nothing compared to your day!

Well, I just finished marinating some chicken in yogurt and spices for chicken tikka masala(from scratch!!) Can’t wait to try the finished product.Also made a butternut squash risotto tonight, I’m tired! Loved your show on Sunday and really want to make the mango bbq sauce, although I really don’t like fennel… oh well, guess I’ll just leave it out:)

Your joy is so infectious, I love it. What am I doing today? Making chicken soup and apple cake and tonight for dinner I’m making your naan pizza recipe. I even found mango chutney in my local supermarket, I can’t wait to try the pizza! I bought cumin too, so I’m stocking up on Indian spices to make even more of your recipes.

I wish I could have sat in more for the panel Aarti! I brought my kids along and they were hungry during the panel discussion…It was probably not the best idea but they were happy to see you. I got hear some of the discussion, but not all. I wish there is some recording I can play back. I enjoyed listening to both of you. I was impressed by Ree as well since it was my first time learning about her. I did go home later and looked up her blog as well and will be following her as well.
I was going to be sooo disappointed if I did not get a chance to say hi to you that day, since my main purpose to coming to the event was you.
THANK YOU sooooo much for coming and saying hi to my girls and family later. You made our day! I would be posting my pic with you on my blog hopefully soon. I have been sharing my excitement with everyone at work, friends, family and twitter. I have to say everybody I speak with LLLLLLLOVES you!!!!

I’ve been following your blog since I found out you had one while you were on NFNS. I was reading all of your previous posts, and stumbled on the one where you mentioned Ree’s blog (which I’ve been following for a few years), while I was eating her most recently posted recipe, Curried Chicken Salad. What a coincidence! I own her cookbook, and I’m hoping you put one out soon so I can add it to my collection! P.S. My 4-year-old daughter loves your FN show, as well as your YouTube videos, especially the talking sweet potatoes! She asks me every day if we can watch it again.

Sounds like a hard day of work.
What am I doing today? Well, I believe in a bit I’ll be enjoying a scoop of that kulfi you inspired me to make. I kind of wish I motivating myself to buy, shell, and chop the pistachios because I think they would’ve been worth it, but I felt a little lazy about it — especially since Brian doesn’t like pistachios. Next time… Oh, but what a wonderfully rich and delicious treat it is! And the scent and flavor, for whatever reason, is reminiscent of pumpkin pie. Good thing it’s just about that time of year, right?

Aarti – I love your new show and am so happy that Food Network made the right decision to make you the Next Food Network Star – and you will be just that – a star! I haven’t had a chance to make any of the recipes but they are all intriguing. I lived in India for a year and many of the spices you use are all familiar to me. Looking forward to trying them soon. Oh, it sounds like you had an AMAZING day!! How fun! And, yes I also LOVE Ree!! I stood in line for her to sign my book for 5.5 hours last year. It was so worth it!
I love your show, and so does my 6 year old daughter, Jaya. We were watching your show yesterday on our dvr and she told me “MOM, we HAVE to stop watching this b/c I just want to eat it NOW!!” Needless to say, your mango bbq pork is in my dutch oven right now! Aarti…..Because I read Ree’s blog every day…..now I have found YOU! My husband, daughter and I watched your journey on Food Network Star! I was screaming when you won! Soooooo excited for you! Aarti I am SO happy you won NFNS, I was routing for you from episode 1! I feel like your show was created just for me, I LOVE Indian flavors and always look for ways to incorporate them into everyday dishes. You are such a natural on camera, it’s no surprise that your show is so warm, engaging, and inspiring. I am literally going to make every single one of your recipes.

The hardest thing for me on Sundays is that I miss your show! I don’t have TIVO or DVR so I watch the snippets on the Food Network Website and follow your blog.

You are looking like a star! I’ve been thinking lately that while your FN show and your career will be great and I will enjoy watching it unfold, I love the simple boho artist style of your blog show. You won’t have time for that anymore. And your contract may even forbid it. I love seeing your husband and friends participate. I loved finding out you were a fellow burner. You were able to be silly in your online show in a way that perhaps the network won’t let you. I will miss that so very much. But I am still thrilled to see your success! I rather hope you are able to push the boundaries (Alton Brown managed to in his own way) and bring your unique energy to your show.

It’s so funny that you were excited about meeting Ree because when I first read her post about speaking at the festival I thought “Oh my gosh, she got to meet Aarti!”
