Dilemma
Posted by Aarti on August 27th, 2010 . Filed under: Uncategorized .The 10pm chocolate craving has struck.
Too late to go out and get some — I’m comfy on my couch, and unwilling to move after a glass of wine.
Too early to go to bed and pretend it’s not happening.
Aghghghghghggh!
In other news, I found this photo of Bren and I when he came to visit the set. Can’t you see the relief on my face? I look so happy, so safe. I love this photo.

So, inquiring minds want to know, did you cave in to the chocolate craving? What did you have, if you did?

August 28th, 2010 at 12:05 am
cute!! i loved that episode.
I always have a stash of chocolate in my fridge for those late night cravings.
August 28th, 2010 at 1:58 am
That is a beautiful photograph!!! Congratulations again on your win and may you have many more blessing come your way.

Such a sweet moment caught on film
.
I’m already excited for your second aired show tomorrow! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… SO HAPPY YOU WON!!!
August 28th, 2010 at 4:41 am
What a beautiful moment to capture:-)
August 28th, 2010 at 4:53 am
That is a great shot. Have to admit I was a bit jealous watching that episode…Husband works with the fishing industry and had been working the salmon fishing in AK since early June. But he comes home tomorrow so I’m jealous no more! LOL
August 28th, 2010 at 4:58 am
You need a stash of dark chocolate truffles somewhere. : )
Lovely photo. What a great moment, even for us at home, when you all saw your loved ones.
August 28th, 2010 at 6:35 am
What a beuatiful picture and its easy to see the love and safety you feel with your Bren. So so so happy you won!!
August 28th, 2010 at 6:46 am
That picture of you is priceless! Bliss…pure bliss!
Congrats on your success!
August 28th, 2010 at 7:18 am
Chocolate, wine and a loving husband (not necessarily in that order) make everything better!!
August 28th, 2010 at 7:29 am
From Montréal
(sorry for my english) I’m so happy that you won, I’ve like you seen the beginning of the show, you’re lovely and full of hapiness in your eyes: you seem to be a really good person.
I will follow you. I wish you happiness trough this new adventure!
…and read the following from The Tao of Pooh:

Congrats!!!
August 28th, 2010 at 7:56 am
The solution to the chocolate dilemma is cleverly hidden in the post! (Beg your man to go get some for you!
August 28th, 2010 at 9:03 am
Hey, if you had to grab the chocolate, at least it was Belgian! That’s the only way to go. My family is from there, and they ship up a box of chocolate twice a year… so dangerous, and soooo goood!
August 28th, 2010 at 10:53 am
I’ve been known to pop a few semisweet chocolate chips in my mouth when those cravings strike! lol Your first show was great…the kulfi pops recipe was very interesting to me as I follow the much more labor intensive and time consuming, albeit not difficult, method of stirring/babysitting the whole milk on the stove top…no more I say! The condensed milk idea is great! I’d love to use the nuts but little one has a nut allergy…sigh. But your finished pop looked so pretty and enticing! Fabulous first show Aarti!
August 28th, 2010 at 11:21 am
What a sweet picture! That was a very moving part of the show to have your loved ones there. I can only imagine how it must have felt to see them in the midst of all of the pressure and excitement. Mmmm chocolate. My time is usually around 3:30 p.m. Like Rani said above, sometimes I pinch hit with some chocolate chips. I like the bittersweet chocolate ones though.
August 28th, 2010 at 11:28 am
Hope you solved your chocolate craving…by the way, I made your gorgeous Friday shrimp last night. How do I get the turmeric off my fingers? Love ya, Marie
August 28th, 2010 at 12:10 pm
Aarti,
Chocolate, cravings, late night…all definite signs you are a real woman. Whew I thought you might be an alien, and now all my concerns have been averted. I have gone on a strict low carb lifestyle change so chocolate has to be in very small portions these days. Loved your first show and can’t wait for tomorrow’s second.
Please keep grounded and don’t overdo. It seems that some who become famous refuse to say, “No” and their lives, their spouses and their sweet personalities go by the wayside. I’m trusting God you stay sweet, meek and focused on the right things.
Really enjoy getting to know you and your sweet husband. I’ve been married 32+ years and love to see a good marriage remain that way!
Excuse the motherly advice, just dislike watching the star status turn the lights out in the souls of great people.

Big and long AAAAWWWWWWWWW
What an adorable and lovely picture!
I too have the same exact craves in evening hours…. and I try to look for something to replace it. But come on…. substitute for chocolate? So impossible! Non sense!
August 28th, 2010 at 12:58 pm
So cute
You, my dear, are awesome and an inspiration!!!
(As to your dilemma, that is why I always have chocolate on hand. If I’m self-controlled enough to actually not polish it all off in one sitting. Well, chocolate or ice cream. They do the same for me!)
August 28th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
Aarti, from the beginning of TNFNS you were my favorite, and I’m so happy you won! Sadly, I don’t have satellite or cable so I won’t be able to watch your show (I watched TNFNS at my mom’s house, she and my stepdad recorded it for me), but I’m following what I can online at Foodnetwork.com and here.
I love that photo of you and Bren…what a wonderful gift God has given each of you
My favorite moment of that show was when Bren took your face in his hands and gazed at you with such love in his eyes *sigh*
I’m looking forward to trying your recipes
Prayers for blessings for you and Bren going up each time I read your blog…your SIC, Kimberly
August 28th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Seriously, can you clone that man? What you and Bren have is something many people go a lifetime and never find. I think you both compliment each other so well. I think the glow that comes through in your on camera presence is the love your heart is radiating. Much continued success to both of you!
Lynn
August 28th, 2010 at 2:17 pm
Looking forward to tomorrow’s show, can’t wait to see the recipes you’ve chosen. (I keep a little secret chocolate stash around for emergencies, but I’ve recently gone over to a healthy lifestyle too so I’m trying to resist.)
August 28th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
that was such a cute moment on the show… love it
August 28th, 2010 at 7:26 pm
Hi Aarti, I am a new reader but watched you on the food network star and was so happy you won! I have been debating on starting my own food blog recently and just started one a couple weeks ago and used you as some of my inspiration! I wish you blessings in your future and know your show is going be awesome!
My blog is about living a healthy balance while raising my family (which includes my infant twins). Feel free to check it out ashandlewplus2.wordpress.com
August 28th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Congrats Aarti you’re both very lucky to have found each other!
…But speaking of this chocolate craving, my mom and sister both get this. My mom has been known to pour chocolate syrup into a spoon in times of desperation and sometimes she’ll mix it with peanut butter.
August 28th, 2010 at 7:53 pm
I’ve been known to hit the chocolate chips, too! Glad I’m not the only one.
I like to keep hot cocoa around for the late-night chocolate fix, but it’s been way too hot for it lately.
August 28th, 2010 at 9:07 pm
Damn… Now where’s that box of Sees Chocolates i have stashed……
August 29th, 2010 at 12:39 am
That IS a great photo – and it was a good episode. And…if it helps, I already caved to my chocolate craving, and combined it with some peanut butter. Perhaps I’m just a bad influence!
August 29th, 2010 at 2:16 am
I’m so happy you won! Congrats. I have my DVR set to record your new show every week, and I’m following your blog and videos! They’re so much fun to follow! BTW – You guys are soo cute together.
August 29th, 2010 at 6:33 am
I stir up a batch of no bake cookies if I’m having a chocolate craving with no candy in the house. I’ll pass along the recipe in next posting (oatmeal, cocoa, peanut butter, sugar and butter)… stir it up in a pan until boil… plop them out on wax paper and wait. That’s the hard part.
So… I have this super idea you can pass along to Food Network. The incredible spices you use and will be using. Can they come up with an Aarti Spice collection for those of us who are having problems finding some of the spices you use? I know I would buy them… and I’m sure lots will.
Can’t wait to see today’s episode.

I love what you do with food…
I know you are crazy busy with your new show which I have watched and DVR’d BUT I am also so looking forward to your COOKBOOK. And one thng that would be oh so helpful would for people like me is a list of what you have in your pantry.
My pantry is geared towards Italian/American cooking and I want to spice it up…
Thanks

Hi Aarti,
I watched your show with great interest (skipping mass) on food netwrok today!! I am very proud, happy and thrilled to know you are Mangalorean, where I come from.
Congratulations and all the very best, Aarti. We love you so much!
We have already published your victory on http://www.mangalorean.com and here is the link…

I would love to hear from you… with great anticipation….
August 29th, 2010 at 11:12 am
I love your show! After watching your show, I went straight to the farmer’s market and bought some kale. Wonderful salad! I can’t wait to learn more from you – so many great ideas.
So glad you won!
August 29th, 2010 at 12:45 pm
Hi Aarti!
I just wanted to stop by your blog and say congrats!
My sisters and I watched this season of Next Food Network Star and were rooting for you from the beginning! Plus, my whole family watched your show last Sunday. It was amazing =) Your show is very fun to watch! Good luck with everything! I love this picture of you & your husband! CONGRATS AGAIN!

Aarti, this is not a response to Dilema but a shout out to you in general. Finally they have someone on the Food Network that catches my attention. You are Fab! I smiled the whole way through your first show. Cheers to you and me as I will be benefiting from you. I just love you big time. I will be watching. Keep smiling on your show because you are beautiful and that smile really shows you off. Congrats and don’t change.
August 29th, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Just heard your interview with chef Jaime this morning and was very happy to hear you will continue your blog (although I can’t imagine how you find the time). Am having your Bombay sloppy joes tonight only I’m putting the meat in tacos with your massaged kale salad on top and Guy Fieri’s pineapple mango salsa on the side! This is the second time I have made the salad and it is just awesome and gets better overnight. I do hope you will do some more traditional indian dishes once people get warmed up to all the new spices and techniques!! Oh, and the picture is adorable-you’re a lucky girl!!
August 29th, 2010 at 1:46 pm
My husband and I were so excited to see your show today! We were both pulling for you the entire season on NFNS and, while we know that both Tom and Herb would have been great, are even more convince after seeing the ‘real deal’ that the best person won! Woo Hoo!
Oh yeah . . . my best answer for a chocolate craving? 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder blended with a banana into 1 cup of vanilla soy milk. Hits the spot every time!
August 29th, 2010 at 3:46 pm
Aarti! Just watched your 2nd show today, good job!! I’m wondering since your lactose intolerance… how did you take a bite of the huggy buggy bread?? lol!
And btw fudgy brownies are my choice for chocolate fixes… just don’t eat too many like I always do!
August 29th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
What a sweet photo, thank you for sharing!
August 29th, 2010 at 4:53 pm
Ah, lovely photo! Thought of you when I was brave enough to attempt some curried red lentils this week. Sticking to my vegan cleanse… over halfway there now!
August 29th, 2010 at 5:08 pm
Aarti,
I just watched your show and cannot tell you how excited I am that you won because I LOVE Indian food and you make it look so easy. You are like a girlfriend on tv. I am going to make sure that I record every show and try as many of your recipes as I can.
Thanks for being you and doing what you do best, cook.
Elaine
August 29th, 2010 at 5:41 pm
I hate your show. I disliked you on the Next Food Network Star. You couldn’t cook rice or potatoes on one single show. I will not be watching. I am sincerely hoping that since you are not on TV tonight, that your show has been cancelled.
August 29th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
Aarti I love your show & am already looking forward to next week’s episode! Keep up the good work. You’re a natural!
August 29th, 2010 at 6:26 pm
Hello Aarti,
Congratulations on your well-deserved win! I was rooting for you from the get go. What won me over is the sheer joy you seem to get out of cooking and sharing your food even in the midst of a grueling, potentially nerve-shattering competition.
So I was watching the Next food network star and wondering where one could find your recipes and just found out that you had a blog! Hooray. I now get to not only watch your show on Food network, but I get to benefit from all the recipes already on your blog!
August 29th, 2010 at 6:39 pm
Loved you on TNFNS and so glad to see you won. Finally food that is really different. I love the taste of Indian foods so can’t wait to see what you produce on your show,
August 29th, 2010 at 6:43 pm
Love the new show! I have made the Bombay sloppy joes so far and can’t wait to try the pistachio pops. You look like you have been in front of the camera all your life! About the chocolate, I have little bits hidden arround the house. Partly because my kids would devour it if they knew where it was and the other out of necessity. I would eat it all. I forget where I hid it and recently found some 100 caloire chocolate Mr. Salty pretzels hidden in with the plastic bags lol!
August 29th, 2010 at 6:54 pm
Aarti, I just wanted to say what a blessing it was to watch you compete on The Next Food Network Star. When we saw you reading your Bible and praying, we were thrilled and started to pray for you. We will continue to pray for you and your family, that the Lord would bless you mightily! Thank you for your warmth and humor on your show, not to mention your talent (I loved the stuffed shrimp, we made it as a family. We can’t wait for more “Aarti Party”. God bless you, The Schneider Family, Vail, Colorado
August 29th, 2010 at 7:13 pm
Hey Aarti congrats again! I was wondering when you get going on your show can you make curried Mac and Cheese? I have tried several different styles but can’t seem to get the right balance from using powder or paste.
Either way I am so excited for you to start filming episodes!
August 29th, 2010 at 9:14 pm
Thanks for taking a Belgian chocolate add, I’m from Belgium and am VERY glad that TJ’s has “the real chocolate”, made in Belgium!
I just went to replenish my stash … my house must ALWAYS have chocolate!!
and that photo is great … I could see the relief on your face, it was just what you all needed that week to boost you up to the finals!
August 29th, 2010 at 10:18 pm
Aarti, first I have to say I’m absolutely IN LOVE with your show and your recipes! I haven’t blogged about them myself, but will as soon as we’re done being sick at my house. You are BRILLIANT!!! I wanted you to win from the very beginning!!!
Second, I need some help. I’ve been making a Thai Chicken Curry for some time now without problems. The last two times I’ve made it it turns out fire-y hot. I’m using Green curry paste and coconut milk. Normally I use canned milk, but switched to powdered coconut milk. Could this really be my problem? Please help!!!! Here’s the recipe I’ve been following: http://pimpmydinner.blogspot.com/2008/02/simple-and-delicious-thai-curry.html
Thanks a million-gazillion!

Love that you won!! Caught the second show, will have to catch up on the first!
My hubby is Scottish, and I fell in love with Indian Food over there when I fell in love with him
and then living in Scotland for 5 1/2 years… We are back in the states now, and hubby misses the Indian Buffet immensely… difficult to find all the flavors in the supermarket in Arizona (!) though when he cooks Indian he does a fantastic job… anyhooo… we both loved watching this season of TNFNS!! And we were pulling for you since the beginning so are THRILLED you have the show. (we also loved Tom and Herb, but are happy happy happy that you got it!)
I wish I’d found your blog and youtube show earlier…!! I feel so behind…
but I have so much fun ahead of me in catching up
Congrats again!! Carrie in Arizona
August 30th, 2010 at 6:24 am
Congratulations!
So glad you won.
Out of all the contestants, yours is the only show I’d ever want to watch… (Or maybe Brad… he’s cute heheh).
WAY TO GO!
August 30th, 2010 at 7:33 am
Congrats on your win! I wish I had found your blog earlier — I’ve been reading it and watching some of your videos and, and I’ve even tried a few of your recipes and they are very yummy. Made the Sloppy Bombay Joes last night and me and my husband LOVED them. Keep up the great cooking!

August 30th, 2010 at 8:30 am
Ack!!! I keep missing the show and it’s not OnDemand and it’s not online. I tried to dvr, but can’t find it. AAAACK!!!
Beautiful photo, by the way. That feeling of being wrapped up in love is so amazing. I will make sure to catch your next ep.
August 30th, 2010 at 12:59 pm
When i first started watching you on Next Food Network Star, i liked you from the very beginning. As i watched week after week and pulled for you, i started to see a lot of myself in you. I too am not real confident in who i am or what i look like or what i can do. Also we both seem to have an extreme love for GOD. When your husband came out and hugged you i cried because it was so much like me and my husband, Jason. I mean Jason is also a tall rocker looking guy. Jason too is the one that keeps me on track when i get down on myself. He also thinks i need to become a next food network star. lol I get home from church on Sunday morning and get in front of the tv so i dont miss your show. I LOVE your show. May GOD bless you in everything you touch.
August 30th, 2010 at 1:02 pm
Thanks so much for sharing your personal photo. It does feel like you’re safe.
I wish I will see you at the LA Food and Wine Fest. I am trying to get tickets. Do you know if the regular admission covers to see you?
August 30th, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Mmm, chocolate. Where’s your emergency stash? Every girl deserves an emergency stash of chocolate — especially lovely Food Network Stars!
I enjoyed that moment on the NFNS. I admit, Aria had us warmed up with that scene of her rushing to clutch her son in her arms, but each scene thereafter was all the more sweeter. Oh no, my eyes are watering again just recalling it!
August 30th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
How did you survive when you didn’t have chocolate??? You should always have chocolate on hand. Be prepared next time
Anyway, you did look safe when you hugged Bren. You two look so cute together
Good Luck with all of your upcoming episodes!!!!
~”Blah”
P.S. Your show is awsome!

I have a sign in my kitchen that says “Woman does not live by chocolate alone, that’s why there’s wine”

so happy for you and the love you two have for each other!
August 30th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
cute picture!!
I suggest, a hand full of chocolate chips :3 perfect for a snack and I always have ‘em around.
August 30th, 2010 at 7:44 pm
Aarti, I know you have hundreds of these to look at but I just wanted to let you know I’ve been rooting for you and was THRILLED that you won! I just finished watching your first show….amazing! I could watch you cook for hours girl and can’t wait to try your dishes! It also thrills me to hear you aknowledge the one who is in control and I just want you to know that I’m praying for you, for strength, wisdom, discernment, and times of quiet rest. Blessings to you as you and Bren embark on this fantastic journey!
August 31st, 2010 at 8:01 am
Chocolate cravings are the worst! or best? I forget which! At least you had the wine!
Great picture!!
August 31st, 2010 at 8:46 am
Chocolate is clearly evidence that God exists…
Great show! You’re a wonderful new addition to the Food Network! You’re smart, charming, talented, and gorgeous.
Several posters have commented that you’re lucky to have Bren (and you are), but let me also point out that he’s quite lucky to have YOU, too! (Hubba-hubba!)
Many blessings and much success!
;^)
August 31st, 2010 at 10:32 am
I have to agree with several posters previous: chocolate chips are the way to go! Try Guittard extra dark–smooth and luscious!
Thanks again, Aarti, for your inspiration! I have to tell you, the very day after your first show, I made the entire menu (don’t like ground turkey, so used ground chicken instead) and my whole family loved it!!! The kulfi was out of this world. We are lucky to live near several ethnic markets, and my youngest son had already been smitten with the kulfi we get at the Indian store, but your home-made version blew the store-bought stuff away!
I look forward now to making your I Ain’t Chicken Chicken–I am a ginger freak!!! It’s the magic word for me!
Good luck!

Hi Aarti,
My name is Meera . I am 12 years old and I love your recipes. So far I have made the Pistachio Pops, the Bombay Sloppy Joes, the Massaged Kale Salad, and the award winning Pizza. My family loves it. This weekend I am going to try the Huggy Buggy Bread ( my family calls me Huggy). I was hoping that you could join me in my quest to raise money to help educate children in India and rid the country of illiteracy. I believe that if tribal children can get an education then they have a better chance of succes and being self-sufficient. I am supporting a program through Ekal Vidyalaya where if you can raise $365.00 you can build one school in one village with one teacher. My younger brother and I have already raised enough for one school over the summer. Ekal’s goal is to build 100,000 schools by 2012. I thought if you could come to my home town in Ohio and cook, we could have a fundraiser to raise money to build many more schools. If you could please do the cooking, than I could supply the food and the place, and invite people from the community to donate. I hope you can help in this really good cause….and we can taste your really good food.
– Meera

Hi Aarti!
I absolutely love your YouTube cooking channel and was so excited when you won TNFNS! I can’t wait until they pick up the show in Canada. I’ve been cooking lots of your recipes lately and the baked samosas and curry popcorn are my fav!
If you’re looking for a delicious alternative to regular milk chocolate to satisfy your chocolate craving, you should try Lindt’s new Chili Dark Chocolate bar…I think you’ll love the hint of spice in it. I loved it so much I wrote a blog post about it
(www.confectionsofasweettooth.com)
Take care!

I watched this episode and spent the first 1/2 hour in tears! I am a sucker for reunions(comes from being an Army wife, I think!) I am very glad that you won!
September 7th, 2010 at 1:34 am
I love your show and watched you every episode on Network Star! Thank goodness for DVR! I was most impressed when I saw you share about your Faith another passion of your life and picked you as my winner from the get go!
She wants to do the Apple slaw soon! God bless and keep you and we are very proud of you, Sister in Christ!
I love this Photo, like your Bren, My Ken is my ROCK of 22 years. I love to cook as well and we share our love of cooking with our grand baby, Taci who is about to be 10 she loves you Aarti

Hi Aarti,
Congratulations on your show. We are all so proud of you! I loved your episodes!! You are a natural!!

Aarti,
Just saw you yesterday on “Big Bite”. Guy’s the type of person I’d like to just sit and listen to, he wouldn’t even have to feed me; just cook and talk. It must have been a blast to work with him, he’s so much fun.
I was wondering if you have a recipe for “Coronation Chicken”? I was in London last year and had a coronation chicken jacket potato and it was so good. I have to shy away form most Indian food because my digestion is sensitive to garlic (I know!!!) but if it is a small amount I can usually handle it.
I live in Houston, Texas so there aren’t a lot of British style Indian restaurants. And again I have to watch the garlic issue so the Indian restaurants here don’t have what I’m looking for.
Can you come up with a recipe?
Can’t wait to see your second season!

Hello Aarti! We were so glad to see that you won the NFNS. We’re looking forward to more Indian-inspired recipes – love those flavors!
We gave the Bombay Sloppy Joes a try, and they’re now on our list of favorite comfort foods. The flavors of the spices work together so nicely, and you get that genuine Indian flavor – but without spending the entire day to get there!
Keep ‘em coming! We wish you the best!
