“winner”
Posted by Aarti on August 21st, 2010 . Filed under: Uncategorized .Wow. What a whirlwind. I watched the finale with a few friends and family on Sunday night at a great bar called The Village Idiot here in LA. The next morning, I was up at 7am to start doing interviews over the phone, which I did until noon, then I packed a bag and Bren and I left for New York. We just got back last night… and my new show starts tomorrow. Crazy!
Doreen and Das came to the finale viewing party, which I thought was really sweet. I know they wanted this just as badly, if not more, than me… other people may have found it too painful to come, but they did, and that speaks volumes about them. Thank you so much for coming you guys.
And thank you for taking so many awesome photos Doreen! This one is spectacular — the exact moment when they say my name — look at all the fists in the air! It occurred to me that night, that I was sharing the victory with so many people. That brings me a lot of joy!
And isn’t this one brilliant too? I had no idea Doreen was snapping away!
That was such a wonderful night. My house is still full of bunches of flowers that people gave me. It’s awesome. One of my friends cried on my shoulder with joy. Another called and said that this has helped me realise the power of focusing on your dream. You can do it, Andy!
Bren made a lovely speech about me that night:
And imagine my surprise when, the next day we saw this on the side of the building next door to Food Network HQ at Chelsea Market.
Bren made me do the exact pose.
Sidebar: having Bren with me in NY this week was the best present ever. There’s something about having your other (better) half with you during momentous occasions that sort of cements it, acknowledges it as real, reassures you that you’re not dreaming; this is really happening!
And as I write, I’m realising that this is finally sinking in! In practically every interview I’ve done over the past week, I’ve been asked, “How do you feel?”. And I wax on about how excited I am, about how I feel like I’ve done well for my family, about it feeling so surreal.
But now… it’s sinking in.
I remember standing there, staring at the billboard, wearing exactly the same top (by happenstance), and watching out of the corner of my eye as people striding down the busy New York streets stopped and did a double-take. “That’s me up there,” I thought. I clutched Bren’s hand tightly. “I did it. My life is never going to be the same.”
And it isn’t. And that’s amazing! I’m already flabbergasted at the opportunities before me. But I’m also hoping that this experience isn’t going to change me… I’m watching myself so closely because I know the most insidious change happens slowly, while you’re focusing on other things that seem more important. I don’t want to lose the giddy excitement I get every time someone recognizes me, or the way I slap my thigh when I make a good dish. I want to make sure I thank every single person, from the guy who drove us to the airport the other night, to old friends who still make me feel special. I want to remember to make them feel special too. I want to remain open to you guys, to blog away here diligently, to try to answer as many questions as possible (just wittled my emails down to 1400 this morning. Oof!). I don’t want to be swayed by blogs obsessed with my boobs (they’re big, ok?!), or my weight, or by the holes punched in my door (there’s a great story behind that). Most of all, I want to make sure I always remember Who is in charge, and not get so caught up in my own ego and power that I forget and make Him sad.
Bren would say that it’s just like me to look for the grey cloud when God is lavishing me in silver lining! So I’m focusing on enjoying this time, soaking up every moment and blessing. MY SHOW STARTS TOMORROW! Aaaaghghghghgghghghghghg!

p.s. It’s on at 12p (ET) tomorrow. If you’re in a different time zone, double check when it’s on because as I understand it, if you have cable out here on the West Coast, it’s on at 9am. But if you have cable, then it’s on at 12p (PT).

We’re so thrilled for you, Aarti.
And if you make that decision to continue being grateful and humble (as you have), I know everything will work out beautifully.
Because of you, I’ve had to look up all sorts of spices I never knew existed. I don’t know what half this stuff is or where to find it! But I am determined to try it. Thanks for being you.
Blessings!

Congratulations…. I discovered Indian food about five years ago when my best friend and her husband ordered from a local Indian restaurant. I tried Chicken Tikka Masala for the first time and absolutely loved it and the naan bread… Yummy! I have never tried to make this dish or any other Indian dish although it is our families favorite and we eat it about once a month. I am so excited that there will be a show on Food Network that focuses on bringing these flavors to everyday dishes…. My daughter and I watch Food Network all the time and look forward to your new show. Congratulations again and remember to relish in the silver lining that God is lavishing upon you….You deserve it!
Sincerely, Debbie

Aarti,
I am so excited that you won! Living in a place where I was surrounded ethnic food, especially Indian, then moving to a place where it’s a rare find has been a bit dissatisfying to the palate. I have always been a little frightened to make Indian food. When I saw Aarti Paarti was going to happen, I jumped for joy! I just did a remix version of your pilot recipe and love it! Thank you for inspiring me to make something I would never have dreamed I could! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s show!!
August 21st, 2010 at 2:53 pm
Aarti, reading your post brought tears to my eyes. Your beautiful heart and faith in God, just shines through your words on and off camera. Your so true and real and I feel privileged to not only share the same religious faith as you and your family, but to pray for you too. God is soooo good. love ya sister.

Hi Aarti, I am soooooo happy you won and I am looking forward to watching your show!!! I can’t even imagine how surreal this must all be for you. You’ve worked hard–everything you’ve done has prepared you for this moment. You are where you are because you believed in yourself and didn’t give up. It is your time to (really) shine! Now go on out there and do your thing…and if you ever need a prep cook or someone to bounce ideas around with, look me up. :>) (((HUGS)))

The images that your friend captured at the party are truly magical. Even just looking at them, you can feel the love and excitement that your friends have for you.

I’m really looking forward to watching your show. I already have it set up to record. Your joyful attitude and spirit come across in a huge way. As a vegetarian I look forward to learning a new style of cooking that seems to be very easily adapted to a veg lifestyle. Thank you!
August 21st, 2010 at 6:29 pm
So happy for you. And so happy that you give all the credit where it is due: to the Lord. I’ve loved you from the beginning of the show and I was thrilled to find out you’re a Christian. You’re great!
August 21st, 2010 at 6:30 pm
From one “thinker” to another, enjoy the ride! You SO earned it and are so worthy of it!! You know in your heart when you’re the most true, so you can never be steered wrong.
You are beautiful and fabulous and talented, girlfriend, so get those naysayers outta ya head (it’s their jealously talking anyway!) “Do the d*ng thing”, as they say. YOU GO GIRL!!!
Congratulations again and MUCH continued success!!!

Aarti, I’m so glad that you won your own show, because I also struggle with confidence sometimes. Now, I won’t need to struggle, because if you can do well, I can too.
August 21st, 2010 at 7:13 pm
Aarti, I can’t wait for your show to premiere tomorrow. I’m about to go set my DVR!
You are a beautiful woman and you’re one of my foodie inspirations. Please don’t worry about people who dwell on your shape or your style. I love your warmth (at least what I see on tv and on this blog) and I love that you have a beautiful, curvy figure… like me! I like seeing someone on television who is beautiful, talented, and not super skinny. Please don’t change.
August 21st, 2010 at 7:18 pm
Aarti,
Just set my DVR to record the next two “Aarti Paarti” shows. Hubby is away from home and will miss seeing them live so I won’t watch until he gets home. I understand having your soul mate with you. We’ve been married 32+ years and feel like we did when we married in 1977! Hey we may look older on the outside, but we’re 21 on the inside!
Glad you’re watching your soul. We would hate for you to become a “star” to the detriment of your sweet spirit. God is after all watching you!
Congrats again,
Cerise and Jeff Welter

August 21st, 2010 at 9:47 pm

August 22nd, 2010 at 12:22 am
Thank you so much for helping demystify Indian food! Its what I grew up on and I have such a hard time introducing it to people. Now that some of my friends have seen you on the show they are more interested in trying Indian dishes and are asking me what to experiment with
One thing I hope is that you will continue to have the “special guests” you have in all your youtube vids, it is really a part of your personality that I love and I wish the world could have seen more of that on tv. I also love the format of your videos on the youtube show, I realize that Food Network has their own guildlines and what not, but I hope they will allow you to stay true to yourself in terms of the creative side because I love the fact you’re making Indian food ‘cool’
But whatever, it doesn’t matter you’re officially the Next Food Network Star!
I wish you the best and I hope that no matter what happens you at least sit back and enjoy the ride! Take Care!
August 22nd, 2010 at 4:00 am
Congratulations! I’m so excited that you won and was rooting for you the whole time! Since seeing you NFNS I discovered your YouTube show as well and love how charming and friendly you are. The food is great also, have made your Iron Chef shrimp recipes and the fish tacos. All were delicious!! Looking forward to your premiere today!
August 22nd, 2010 at 4:27 am
Hooray Aarti
Way to go! You Rock! Marilyn and I are spreading the word about your premiere show today at 12. Can’t wait to see it!
August 22nd, 2010 at 5:28 am
Congrats Aarti! I was watching you on “The Next Food Network Star” and you were AWESOME!!! When I was thinking about who I wanted to win the show I wanted you to win. You are really creative. Your food looks great! I want to eat it!
August 22nd, 2010 at 5:29 am
Keep up the good work!
August 22nd, 2010 at 5:52 am
You were my pick from day one, Aarti! My nine-year-old and I were both jumping and screaming with delight when you were announced as the winner; she also has a dream of becoming a renowned chef one day. It makes my job as a parent so much easier when she sees successful people who started with nothing more than a dream and the will and desire to follow it through– thank you from the bottom of my heart! You have a beautiful soul, Aarti, and please know that it spills over from the cameras into our homes. I’m so excited for you, and congratulations!
August 22nd, 2010 at 5:53 am
Aarti – I am so excited to watch your show! You and Tom were my favorites the entire season and I was so happy to see the finale was down to you, Tom and Herb! I REEEEEAAALLLY wanted you to win because I LOVE Indian food but the only recipe I know how to make is Abu ghabi (sp??) after watching Bend it Like Bekham! haha!
I actually went out and bought quinoa after the breakfast cereal challenge and added it to my Mediterranean dinner the other day! (mixed it in a sprouted grain tortilla with hummus, roasted tomatoes, lettuce and feta.)
I look forward to your show today!!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 6:33 am
Yay for you! All of my friends and family up here in Ontario Canada have faithfully cheered you on. I am so very happy for you and can’t wait to see you on my tv instead of my computer.
Best wishes,
Alanda
August 22nd, 2010 at 6:38 am
So, so exciting! And just now your show was #1 on the Yahoo “Trending Now” list!
August 22nd, 2010 at 6:42 am
Congrats to you! I wish you well. I am however, very disappointed at Food Network because we were watching the show and 15 minutes before they announced the winner- they showed a commercial showing you as the winner-and agin before the winnder was revealed another commercail showing you as he winner. So that spoiled the shows’ ending. We were definitely wanting you to win BUT for Food Network to “spoil” the ending is not acceptable-They could have waited until after the winner was announced.
August 22nd, 2010 at 6:47 am
I wish you all the best! I have the greatest respect for someone who makes themself a promise to “keep it real” and plan on doing so. Regardless of how successful one may be it is so important to keep yourself grounded. We are indeed human and we can rise as quickly as we can fall and for you to be so humble is not only refreshing but inspiring! It’s great that you obviously have people close to you who will stand by you and keep you in reality!
Congratulations on acheiving your goals and fulfilling your dreams. You not only provide inspiration through your culinary genius but also through your personality. Paarti on Aarti!
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:13 am
A great post, Aarti. You make all of us food bloggers proud. I hope I am as graceful next year. Ha ha. Congratulations and enjoy the ride!
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:14 am
LOVE this blog and pics, girl!! So incredibly beautiful to see your dreams coming true – keep your eyes focused on the One who loves you most. He loves giving good gifts to His children… and has purpose for them too – in your life and in the lives of others. I am sure you have lots of folks praying for you, but I am too. Time to Paarti! (and btw, when it’s time for us to finally get to Sudan- I’m calling you!)
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:24 am

They picked the right girl for sure. Best of luck to you & I have my TIVO set to record all your episodes. Your cooking really enlightens this midwestern girl. Again, congrats!
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:58 am
Aarti,
My wife and I watched every episode…each week you were fun to watch and, sometimes agonizingly, create those wonderful dishes on the Next Food Network Star. As the judges said, we looked forward to what you were cooking every week…
Best Wishes, and good luck!!

There was just something about you that I liked from the beginning… perhaps it is that lovely accent of yours or the way you look on camera… you have such a brilliance, charm and likeability factor…. as much as some of the others really progressed through the competition, I had always been rooting for you from the start and i was right on target with the judges! I am SOOOOO excited for you!!
Many Many Many Blessings!!!
Sincerely,
teri

I am so proud of you! I didn’t get to watch the entire series…but I managed to get a peek now and then…and I made sure I saw all of the finale. How exciting! I am very happy for you, which may sound silly considering we don’t know each other, but it is a wonderful experience to see someone’s dream come true.
This is truely a Blessing from God above. I wish you all the success and excitement and fun you truly deserve!
God Bless You!!

August 22nd, 2010 at 9:20 am
Just watching your premier … You, my dear, are a natural! You are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and fun! Love the Indian take on Sloppy Joes.
Congratulations, Aarti … Can’t wait to see more recipes with the Aarti touch!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:27 am
I’m loving your show! One thing though – I’d love it if FN could add “subtitles”or footnotes when you mention a specific herb/spice. I would love to buy some of them, but I can’t make some of them out.
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:27 am
Oh, and one thing, Aarti….we played hookey from church this morning to watch you. Celebrating your triumph and the continued fulfillment of His plan was more than enough! Inspiring, and making me hungry–can’t wait for dinner. Thanks, winner!

August 22nd, 2010 at 9:28 am
Your new show is freaking fantastic!!!! Absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything about it!! Making your Sloppy Bombay Joes today!!! Can’t wait to try the kale salad, too, will go perfectly with luscious Keitt Mangos!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:29 am
Aarti –
Having just watched your premier (and now set my dvr to tape your entire series) I must tell you have much I enjoyed the show.
My husband and I watched The Next Food Network Star and had you chosen as our favorite from episode ONE.
You are a natural. Really… I love to watch cooking shows, but rarely (if ever!) do I giggle. Your comment about eating the premier’s ice cream dessert and experiencing the same Bollywood love fest made me laugh out loud.
Congratulations!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:29 am
I am so happy you won, I’m watching your show right now and it’s the best show I’ve ever seen on Food Network. I love it, you make me so happy just to watch you!
You deserved to win! I am sooo happy for you, you are such a beautiful person and I can’t wait to see so much more of your show!!!
CONGRATS!!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:38 am
I think you are wonderful and so glad that you won! I just watched your first show and think you have some amazing ideas and twists on normal American food! Good Luck and all the best!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:38 am
I just saw the first episode. You definitely shine! I enjoyed the show and the fact that you smiled and laughed all the way through made it fun to watch. I love the set and the graphics as well. Great job!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:38 am
Hope you will have more vegetarian recipes.
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:44 am
I just watched your show and it was wonderful! I loved the graphics as well. I’ve never been a big fan of regular sloppy joes but yours look fabulous. Gotta go spice shopping!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:44 am
Hey Aarti! I just watched your show, and I loved it. Your personality and your sweet smile make the show worth watching. You had me giggling
. I will definitely keep watching every Sunday. Congrats Aarti on your great success, and keep it up!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:44 am
Just check with my cox cable, you will be on at 12:00 noon here in Phx.
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:45 am
I just watched your first show. Wonderful! I’m inspired to try Kulfi! I’m also going to try your tikka masala sauce. I’ve searched endlessly to find a flavor profile that matches the ones I’ve had in restaurants that knocked me out, they were so good.
Brava, Aarti! You had a wonderful Food Network debut! And Bren is right – enjoy this moment! There is nothing to fret over! I agree with you to stay grounded, stay humble, and stay grateful, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate and enjoy the moment you’re in, too!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:45 am
Dear Aarti-
My daughters and I just watched the first episode of your Food Network show. It was FABULOUS!! You were our favorite to win – and Praise God, you did! I started by taking notes but put my notebook down to really focus – your laughter is contagious! We are praising God with you for the work He is doing in and through you. Congratulations!
Blessings Overflowing,
Mary, Brooks and Madison
PS – We’ll buy your cookbook when you publish one!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:49 am
Aarti,
Can’t tell you how excited I was to see your first show on FN!! I thought it would be very good…but you blew me away!! It was AWESOMELY GOOD!!! The recipes looked amazing. You did such a good job during the entire show. It is hard to believe one week ago you were announced the winner and today…viewers got to see your first show. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed going over your blog & watching the online Aarti Party. I didn’t know about the blog until I “googled you” this week. What an accomplished woman you are. I watched all of FNS—and really was pulling for you!! Congratulations on your win, your new show, your previous accomplishements, and best wishes for the future!! What about Aarti Paarti Indian-Style Party dishes, glasses and table linens? Don’t forget Aarti Paarti spices for the home kitchen? The sky is the limit!! Looking forward to next weeks show!! Take Care!
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:49 am
Congrats! I have to admit, I didn’t really think you could pull of being a FN star until i saw your promo, and now your new show. You really grew as a chef in a matter of episodes. I’m happy to start following your blog and tv show.
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:51 am
I just watched your first show and it was phenomenal. I went to the early service at my church so I could be home in time to watch it. You’ve inspired me to try and cook Indian food and I love it! More importantly though, your precious spirit has inspired me greatly. It’s such a refreshing change to see a believer who is authentic and funny and in the world – just not of it. I’ll be tuning in from Alabama as often as I can.
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:52 am
Hi Aarti…
…
…
just finished watching your show from bay area…
it was good…. you did good…
and your recent post is very touching… I like the down to earth character of yours… and I hope you will stay that way forever
Best Wishes !
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:53 am
Loved watching your first show! You are a natural and a joy to watch. I am so glad we will learn how to infuse a little Indian flavor in our every day foods.
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:57 am
Okay, I have to say, I don’t like Aarti; I LOVE HER!!!! Just watched the first episode of her new show and can’t wait to try making Bombay Joe’s. Food Network – where can I buy Aarti’s spice tray? What a great idea!
You rock Aarti!!!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 10:02 am
Congratulations, Aarti! My husband and I literally ran to the computer to find the recipes for the Bombay sloppy joes and kale salad. We are vegans and will be substituting Boca crumbles in place of the ground meat, BUT oh, my gosh, we could almost smell the cardomam, cumin, and ginger right in our living room. We so enjoyed your program, your humor, your energy, and your love of cooking! Thank you for bringing Indian cuisine to us!
August 22nd, 2010 at 10:03 am
Just finished watching–Loved it and learned allot……..
Didn’t know you could make ice cream without an ice cream maker—– I’m going to try adapting your recipe to make some Vietnamese coffee ice pops…….. Loved the idea of a salad that will last for a few days and is healthy….
Wonderful show……….
August 22nd, 2010 at 10:06 am
Just watched your show. Great job! Can’t wait to try your recipes. Also, loved the graphics and the set.
One note: since you are using some ingredients that I’m not familiar with (e.g. garam masala), maybe you could add a fun text overlay on screen with the spelling and possibly a short description/tip/definition. At least the spelling.
August 22nd, 2010 at 10:07 am
Yes I’d like that spice tray too….On the one I have the lid is soooo tight the spices fly all over when you open it………
August 22nd, 2010 at 10:15 am
The presentation of Arrty was not to my expectation compared to all the other food network stars. Arrty seems to talk constantly, which is very distracting. I really am disappointed in you selection of the new network star.I would have preferred Herb or Tom,at least they had a personality.
August 22nd, 2010 at 10:16 am
Hey Aarti,
What a great first episode. Loved the pista kulfi. Haven’t had it in a long time. A well deserved win to be the Next FN Star. Congrats and good luck!
August 22nd, 2010 at 10:23 am
After rooting for you throughout the “Next FN Star” season, I was so excited to see the first episode of your show. It was FANTASTIC! Thanks for making the tastes of India so accessible to us home cooks. Every dish looked delicious; can’t wait to try them all. Plus the art direction — from the set to the show graphics — is adorable. I’d love to buy home decor, kitchen ware, or clothing with those colorful designs (tell Food Network to get cracking on that). Keep up the great work, Aarti and team!
August 22nd, 2010 at 11:00 am
Most fun Food Network show I’ve seen in a long time! Aarti, you glowed and are a star right off the bat, showing no sign of nervousness. I hope they put your show on at night some time to give you more exposure. I’m thinking of ways to adapt the Sloppy Bombay Joes for vegetarian–maybe with lentils, cauliflower, cashews…(and maybe use the mixture over toasted bread, like bruschetta, rather than a bun). I hope you’ll include some vegetarian recipes along the way, or maybe at least mention some adaptations on air or in the printable recipes. You should sell your spice tray. Great job!
August 22nd, 2010 at 11:09 am
I watched your show this morning and loved it! I was cheering you on through the whole season of TNFNS and was so happy that you won. I love Indian food and cant wait to learn more about incorporating it into my menus at home. Keep up the great work!
August 22nd, 2010 at 11:13 am
Aarti! I’m just so proud of you as if you were my real life friend!
Please include in your new show places online that you would reccommend buying Indian spices from. People living in rural places have a hard time finding these. I’m 3-4 hours from Dallas or Houston.
August 22nd, 2010 at 11:19 am
Haha, no way – I was there the other day on an errand and had wished I’d had a camera with me so I could send it to Crish. Wicked!
August 22nd, 2010 at 11:20 am
Followed you throughout the competition and watched the premier show this morning — its on at 9am in AZ, thank goodness for DVR. Fabulous show, congratulations!! Your show is definately one that will send me to the laptop for the recipes. Looking forward to many seasons!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 11:28 am
My fiance and I watched the competition and were thrilled to see that you won! You are our absolute favorite.
We watched the premier show this morning and LOVED it! I don’t usually watch cooking shows but we will tune in for yours. You did a great job.
Congratulations! Well deserved!
August 22nd, 2010 at 11:29 am
this posting was beautiful!
I don’t think the win or your success would affect you in an insidious way because you can tell you have a heart as beautiful inside as you are outside! You are stunning and you need to realize it!
Watched your show today and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT!!! What poise, warmth!!! Felt like a warm, cozy hug or blanket all around me!
Loved the dishes you made and can’t wait to try them. Also can’t wait for your first cookbook to be out!
Pulled for you all the way through the competition. You deserve every bit of this success! ENJOY!!!
Can’t wait for more of your shows!
xoxoxo
August 22nd, 2010 at 11:31 am
aarti,
Congratulations on your win. I am SO excited that your genuine love came through loud and clear and that is why I believe so many people were quickly drawn to you. Several things stood out to me and they are not in any kind of order. 1. You love God and He is such a big part of your life, you shared your faith through your toughest challenges in front of America. 2. God’s Word is such a natural part of who you are because it wasn’t like….”okay, I am going to share scripture…” the words would just flow out of your mouth like liquid God (my fave moment when you shared: Perfect love casts out fear… 3. You are transparent through the most beautiful times and the crushing times of difficulty. 4. Your smile and eyes radiate God’s favor. I was in awe at seeing His grace all over you. 5. It was a journey that you shared with us (whether you intended to or not). Your life isn’t perfect, nor was the show handed to you on a platter. You worked SO hard and it was clear. 6. This one touches on each of the above points. You were not ashamed of who you are and who you were and how God ministered to you through the most deepest valley. What an amazing testament of His goodness showering you and you being SO gracious with each person you came across. I feel like this win was your win but I stand beside you, SO proud of your purposeful determination to walk in your destiny. I am humbled that I know you will read this because I feel like I’ve needed to share my heart with you regarding the impact you made on my life even through a cooking show. Thank you for reading this. I do have a couple questions, you don’t have to personally answer but maybe answer in one of your blogs one day? 1. I love your hair, I wonder if it is naturally curly? I am and hope to read one day what your hair routine is (I don’t think I ever saw any frizz). 2. I love your beautiful tops! They are so flattering on you. Any chance to find out where you were bought them or where I could find some similar? I’ve just started reading your blog about one week ago. Looking forward to trying some of your recipes. Thank you for everything! ((hug)) Congratulations once! Alicia in Texas.
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:16 pm
Aarti,
Congratulations on the win. I wonder if you could tell us sometime (on your show or blog or something) where to get good Indian spices. Every Indian person I’ve known has one of those spice trays you have and they all seem to get their spices from India because they say the spices here in the states aren’t the same. I’ve tried cooking Indian before with spices from the states, and it never turns out great. I don’t know if it’s the spices or me. I would LOVE to be able to cook great Indian food.
Thanks!
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:16 pm
I am actually watching your show right now and just had to tell you how fabulous it is!! I have been watching your blog and the show is just as charming and informative. I have already made the massaged kale salad and plan to make it again next weekend with the sloppy joes only I’m going to use the filling in tacos with a mango salsa and use the kale salad instead of the boring lettuce you usually have with tacos!! Thank you for inspiring me!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:16 pm
I love Aarti!
This is exactly what food network needs. MORE SPICE! MORE COLOUR! She’s kind of like the Indian Ina! I love her giggle and it’s so obvious her food could kick any food network chef’s butt!
Thank you for making the right decision Food Network!
Namaste,
Lara
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:26 pm
Wow! I loved the show today. I’m especially happy to see that they did a fairly good (okay, excellent!) recreation of your style here on the blog. And I REALLY want to make those delicious looking and sounding ice cream pops you made. I haven’t had pistachios in such a long time, and I must remedy that soon.
While I imagine this is a very overwhelming life change, you are absolutely glowing and exuding radiance — and I’m betting the flowers in your hair are going to start a fashion trend. I admit, seeing you with the flowers in your hair throughout the show made me feel more like it would be absolutely alright to go ahead and do that with my own hair. Something to add a little feminine touch when all I do is wrap it in a clip during the summer months. Inspiring me to test out different culinary flavors and dabbling in different hair styles, you’re awesome! =)
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:28 pm
I am so very happy that Aarti won and watching her show this morning just confirmed that she was the best pick. Aarti’s Party is great. She has personality and knowledge. She is laid back but cool. She isn’t boring and she definately has the right stuff for FoodNetwork. Just wanted to join in with others extolling the praises that she deserves to receive. Great job; great choice; and congrats to The Next FoodNetwork Star Show for putting on such exciting competitions. You all rock
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:35 pm
Hi Aarti!
I loved your show today! And I love YOU! You got me inspired to cook up some Indian flavor-infused dishes. In fact, I tried your baked samosas recipe from Aarti Paarti the other day and loved them. Please keep up the wonderful work and continue to inspire home cooks everywhere, one spice at a time!
Love,
Hirono
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:37 pm
Just watched your show and LOVED it!! You are so warm and friendly and the food looked fantastic. I’ve cooked since my own “mum” taught me, but I’ve never cooked with Indian spices. Loved the tips and several things I learned during the show. I’ll have to try your version of Sloppy Joe’s – they looked great. I have had raw kale salad before and it was delish – again, I’ll have to try your recipe. Also loved your set! Congratulations on your success and the best to you this season and many, many more!
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:37 pm
Hi! Hola! from thr Island of Puerto Rico! I so all the Sunday’s FNStar and vote for you and Aria. God Bless you!
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:42 pm
Loved the show & may you wholly enjoy the blessings God is pouring upon you. Sloppy Bombay Joes tonight. Thank you for posting scripture on your FB fan page…I’m amazed that was ‘allowed’ but awesome.
Blessings

August 22nd, 2010 at 12:51 pm
Congratulations on your win and your new show! I am so impressed with what I have learned just from watching the first episode! I never thought to use kale in a salad and you made taking the leaves off kale so quick and easy! I’ll definitely have to try some of your recipes. Keep up the great work!
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:52 pm
Great job on the new show! I DVR’d it earlier today and just watched it. Yummy stuff! I’m curious, how do you spell the ice cream dessert you made. It’s sounds like “coffee” but I’m sure it’s spelled differently.
I’m thrilled for you! Enjoy your ride!
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:54 pm
Aarti,
My husband and I loved you on Next Food Network Star and were rooting for you!! I can’t wait to get home and see your premiere show (we are on vacation so we couldn’t watch it today) and try your recipes. I have been telling my best friend, who is Indian, that I need to learn how to cook Indian food and now I can! Congratulations and best of luck to you with your new show!! Looking forward to trying lots of your dishes!
August 22nd, 2010 at 12:56 pm
Great first show, Aarti! You looked super-comfortable and like you were really enjoying yourself. I’m not so much for pistachios, so I’m thinking about modifying the dessert pops to be more hazelnut-flavored. But the sloppy bombay joes and kale salad…YUM!
Congrats again, and continued good luck to you!
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:01 pm
Offer us an Aarti Indian spice starter kit and we’ll buy it TODAY!
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:17 pm
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Very impressive. Your first show was creative and well organized. I particularly enjoyed the manner in which you introduced ingredients. By discussing key elements of an ingredients flavour profile and how it interacted with more common ingredients. You very effectively broadened our understanding of a few Indian spices and made the entire concept very approachable. I am looking forward to making the pistachio ice cream. Brilliant.
Having followed you through the “Next Food Network Star” series, I am not surprised.
My site is presently on a park server, under construction.
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:21 pm
Woo hoo! Congrats on your win Aarti! I just watched your first show, you were awesome! I can’t wait to see what you’ll be coming up with next and I’m super excited about trying your fun and creative recipes. You rock!
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:25 pm
My wife and I made sure to see the premier episode, and suffice it to say, I went out and bought all the stuff to make those sloppy bombay joes!
You did good! Keep it up!
Peace and blessings
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:26 pm
So happy you won! You are adorable!
I just watched your first show and loved it!
Thank you for making Indian food understandable for the home cook…
I’m off to make Sloppy Bombay Joes!
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:27 pm
I’M SO PROUD OF YOU! YOU GO GIRL!!! I just knew from the first Episode that you were going to win. Ask anyone in my family they all knew!
I just watched your show and LOVE IT! I’m so happy for you. The shows great… I normally watch cooking shows and it’s just to watch it… yours was different because I’d rooted for you from the get go. THEN top it all off I LOVE the food! I’m going to print of the recipes, go shopping and taste it now cause it ALL looks great. I have long wanted to taste Tika Masala, now here’s my chance. We are really into ice cream now too, not to mention that Earl Grey’s my all time favorite tea so I’m looking forward to that as well.
There’s only ONE thing wrong… your music, gagamaggot… sorry.
but I would have given you BallyWood! That would be the icing on the cake. BUT the cakes still great and I’m going to feast.
You don’t even know me but GIRL I’m SO PROUD OF YOU! We are in LA and if you are ever traveling on I-5 the GrapeVine between LA and Bakersfield… you need to stop by and have a cupa. GO GIRL!
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:35 pm
You made me want to try indian food and flavors!!! =)
I’m glad you won! You were my favorite from day one =)
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Yay! You won! Everytime I am on the Food Network I see you on the comercials I’ll be like: “ITS AARTI LOOK!!! ITS AARTI!!! LOOK! LOOK! You just warmed my family’s heart!
Well I hope you become a big hit on the Food Network!
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:46 pm
Just watched the premiere. You did an AMAZING job. I was so impressed and inspired, I went to the store right after and bought everything to try your recipes. I’ve never known anything about Indian food and I LOVE that you’re presenting it by making some classics your own.
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:54 pm
I’m so sad. I missed your show today, but I promise I will set it up to record for future. Congrats on winning. I am so happy for you. I’m excited about your recipes! I have not cooked indian food before, but love it.
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:56 pm
I THINK YOU ARE GOING TO BE A MAJOR HIT. Because you are bringing the tastes of the Far East in tune with a hint of Urban New York Style Cuisine. which is something the United States and World hasnt seen before. You seem to have a great personality too and pretty soon you may be cooking for Good Morning America or the Today Show on some of their holiday segments. It only gets better from here. Much Love and Success To You and the name of your show has a nice ring too it as well Aarti Parti, lol. Im Lovin it.
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:59 pm
Watched your show today – it instantly became my favorite on Food Network…..
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:59 pm

Best to you! Beth in IL
August 22nd, 2010 at 2:22 pm
I watched your show today. I have to say, the giggles were a bit over the top. I understand this was your first show, and you had nerves. But you have the personality and it will come natural. I will give the show another shot, but I found the giggles to be a distraction to your tips and presentation.
August 22nd, 2010 at 2:31 pm
My two daughters and I watched your show this morning (we’re on Central time), and we loved it! We’re now faithful Aarti followers! Paarti on!
August 22nd, 2010 at 2:34 pm
Im 13 years old, and i absolutely LOVE cooking. i wanted you to win on “The Next Food Network Star” from the start. my family members and i are larger built, and i have wanted to try to cook indian food for a while because i wanted a challenge. my mom and i (the cooks) dont like to be taught how to cook a meal by a stick thin cook, and the meal be so small that you need a magnifying glass to see (not calling you fat, because you arnt). my mom has wanted me to try to cook indian food because she had a roommate in college whos family was from india, and her mother would come and stay with them for 2 weeks, and the dorm would smell of spice the whole time because she cooked for them. I cant wait too watch you (missed todays show)!
August 22nd, 2010 at 2:37 pm
Great show! Glad the panel gave you your own show.
August 22nd, 2010 at 2:45 pm
Congratulations Aarti! I just watched the show and it was wonderful. I’m not sure who designed it, but the sets, the animation for the lead ins, the kitchen (and of course you), so great to watch.
Before I sat down to watch, a nice lady at the Farmer’s market talked us into a bunch of kale and I wasn’t sure how I would use it up. Now I need to go find a mango because I just HAVE TO try that kale salad. Keep up the good work!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 3:02 pm
LOVED the new show today! When’s your first cookbook coming out? I want to buy one to get all of your great recipes. Congratulations!!!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 3:03 pm

August 22nd, 2010 at 3:23 pm
Aarti,
Congrats on the new show, when the judges got down to the final three- I was hoping so much you would win! I saw your new show today and I have a question… There was your collection of Indian spices in your “spice box”?? Where could I get one of these spice collections?
I have seen these on another cooking show and there is a indian word for this. Isn’t there?
Love you and will continue to watch your show on sunday at noon.

GREAT job, Aarti – I can’t believe that was your first episode. You carried it off with such aplomb! And you do light up the screen.

Congratulations! I was so happy when I saw that you won. I’ve been rooting for you since I started watching the show. Your warmth and kindness radiate from the screen, which makes you so fun to watch! You are also very pretty, and I love that you’ve still managed to stay humble, despite all of your amazing accomplishments! I enjoy eating Indian food, so I can’t wait to try some of your Indian-inspired dishes.

August 22nd, 2010 at 5:59 pm
I’m really touched by what you said, that you don’t want this to change you. A really wonderful thing just happened to my life. I’m so grateful. And I also try very hard not to let myself be too full of it. Congratulations, Aarti! Have lots of fun with the new show!
August 22nd, 2010 at 6:09 pm
Aarti, you were my favorite from the first episode. I am so happy that you were able to overcome your feelings of not seeming too sure of yourself sometimes (at least that is how it appeared at times on the show, and we all must remember shows are heavily edited to up the suspense). Don’t be surprised if those feelings come up again, but you can beat them. You deserved to win just as much as Tom or Herb… Anyway, fame can make you more of whatever you are already. Stay rooted and grounded in Him, and walk into whatever He has for you. I enjoyed the show today very much. I’m a big fan of international cuisine and I’m planning to try your recipes. My hubby especially liked the kale one. Best to you!
August 22nd, 2010 at 6:29 pm
Aarti you are amazing. When I watched your pilot, and your show, it made me want to actually cook those things and it looked so simple too! It felt like I could do that. And I think that is key, it looks like something I would want to try to even though I am a picky eater! Grats Aarti! I look forward to watching your shows as you become an even bigger star through your seasons.
August 22nd, 2010 at 6:44 pm
Watching your first episode on my DVR… I love it! You are so warm and genuine – I feel like we’re friends just by watching you chat and cook!
August 22nd, 2010 at 6:48 pm
What a wonderful and brilliant person you are! My family cheered for you every week and watched as you approached every challenge with an unbelievable amount of humility and gratitude. Congratulations! We can’t wait to watch Aarti’s Party!
August 22nd, 2010 at 6:55 pm
I LOVED YOUR SHOW!!!!! I will be making all of those recipes! You are my new favorite on the food network!!!!!! Can’t wait to make that kale!!!!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:05 pm

August 22nd, 2010 at 7:23 pm
Congrats on your win. It’s about time Food Network looked beyond the Americas and Europe. With your help, Desi can be the next Chinese food.
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:23 pm
So incredibly happy for you, Aarti! Just take one day at a time, and keep your eyes on Him and you’ll be fine! You have brought so much joy to so many people already, and you are only just beginning. Enjoy every step in the process…and thank you so much for sharing with all of us your heart!
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:29 pm
AMAZING JOB on your first show! Wow – you were a total natural from the get go! You have such a lovely voice and accent – you are simply adorable! I can’t wait to make your Sloppy Bombay Joe’s… and I cannot wait to massage my kale!
Congrats – fantastic job!!!
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:37 pm
Congratulations and best wishes for future endeavors, Aarti!
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:38 pm
Aarti, I’m so happy for you! You’re so adorable and down to earth, somethings I feel Food Network needed. I promise to, from this day forward, devoutly watch every episode of your show and buy every one of your cookbooks. Watching your show, I feel like I’m a friend of yours coming over to sample some of your delicious food. Even as I write this, I feel I’m paying my compliments to an esteemed colleague. You are a brilliant chef, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for you.
Fondest wishes, Amanda
August 22nd, 2010 at 7:50 pm
soooo excited you won! i’ve been saying you would be the winner since day 1!
you know what I think would be good? give the list of herbs/spices that are specifically indian and not in everyone’s kitchen, in the beginning of each episode… i know you say the name, but seeing the name written down, might help people know what it is, and make it easier to purchase….
can’t wait for your show!

August 22nd, 2010 at 7:54 pm
Aarti,
Congratulations! I told my husband that while the other contestants seemed quite talented, I’d be very disappointed if I didn’t get to learn more about making Indian food more accessible. My favorite sauce is Makhani sauce, so I’ll be watching and waiting and learning and hoping that maybe you’ll show me how to make it someday. I have just seen your first show and you looked lovely and I was excited to try each of the dishes you presented.
August 22nd, 2010 at 8:05 pm
Aarti, oh my goodness! I have been rooting for you from the very beginning. Finding this blog made me so happy, I am definitely going to read it every day! CONGRATS! You deserved it.
August 22nd, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Aarti, watched your show this morning and absolutely loved it!! You did very good for the first show. Thanks for making Indian cuisine shine on Food TV..it’s about time!! Waiting for many delicious recipes inspired from Indian cooking. Good luck.
August 22nd, 2010 at 8:11 pm
Congratulations Aarti! Watched your show today and loved it. I’m making those popsicles asap.
August 22nd, 2010 at 8:12 pm
Wow, when I first found your blog you had a handfull of nice comments, but now 195! I guess that just goes with the territory. As an avid cooking show watcher (started with PBS and Martha and then added FN), I must say I loved every second of your first show today. The quirky cute graphics, your menu (must make it all), your laugh, and your cooking instruction. You did it! All things really are possible through Jesus Christ our Lord who strengthens us. You are living proof to that!
August 22nd, 2010 at 8:16 pm
Dear Aarti,
Congratulations on your win and new show! Our family was rooting for you, including all of our kids, especially the 8-year-old. We watched the show today, and he helped me make the Massaged Kale Salad and Sloppy Bombay Joes (one dozen minis) for dinner, and it was all delicious. One of our other son’s favorite vegetables is kale, and we all enjoyed the salad. The standard review at our table is, “Would we make this again?” and my husband’s reply was, “Yes; we will add this to our family’s recipes.” Thank you for the delicious meal. Two questions:
1. We could not find pumpkin seeds and subbed roasted sunflower seeds. Not sweet but OK. What is your view on substitutions?
2. Can you tell us how to use the wonderful smelling asafoetida in our cupboard?
We also have a photo of me and our son displaying our delicious efforts, if you would like to see it.
All the best,
MB

August 22nd, 2010 at 9:02 pm
Aarti,
I can’t imagine that you have time to read all your posts but I hope you do. I spent an hour trying to figure out how to leave word on the Food Network site about how much I love you…to no avail. I am SO glad you won. I APPRECIATE that the recipes were posted immediately. Church ran over and I missed your show. Wanted to be there to help with your ratings. You are phenomenal. I rooted for you the entire time.
August 22nd, 2010 at 9:07 pm

August 22nd, 2010 at 11:25 pm
Congratulations Aarti! I knew you could be the next food network star because you are great. I won’t be missing your show and I am looking forward to learning a lot about Indian food from you.

Aarti, I loved your first show – you were as warm, informative and “sparkly” as I thought you’d be… perhaps even more! You are a natural at this, and I know you are going to have a long, bright career at this. I was rooting for you from the first episode of NFNS and I can’t wait to try some of your delicious recipes. Enjoy all of the many blessings God has given you – you are a beautiful person, inside and out!
August 23rd, 2010 at 5:22 am
Aarti,
We were routing for you from the beginning. We just watched your first show and I think I am willing to give those sloppy bombay joes a try. I’ve never tried Indian food but your show has made me decide to try!
I think you will be a huge success just like Melissa D’Arabian. We look forward to more accessible Indian food!

“It’s Aarti Party! It’s Aarti Party!! Aarti Party! Aarti Party!” I can’t tell you how many times I said that phrase this weekend with your beautiful british accent after seeing the promos on food network tv. What a great catch-line to remember your name and your show(/blog). So catchy that it will quickly become a household name. Awesome! I have yet to see your show but looking forward to it. Congratulations on your success!!
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:09 am
I am sure you will stay the same… but also want to remind you that nothing is wrong with change… as long as it’s good change.
I also cried watching your show from excitement! It’s a great feeling and journey that you have invited me to join. My two girls were excited for your win as well! I have been talking about you at work and at home. I feel like I won!

There’s already been a bunch of posts so what does mine matter, but I wanted to say that I *LOVED* your show and want to make every single recipe from it! You make it look so easy to add Indian flair to our everyday meals. Thank you for giving me the courage to try something different.
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:22 am
I’m also a new fan of yours, and I know you’re probably sick of the eight billion comments you have gotten recently, but I am SO excited for your new show, psyched to try out your recipes, and I just generally enjoy the warm, inviting, down-to-earth vibe you give off. Keep it up, girl! We’ll be watching you!
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:44 am
Hi, I live in South Carolina and ice cream is a staple in the summer with all the heat and humitity. I made your non-churned ice cream with a southern flair. I made butter pecan. I cooked the pecan peices in 1/2 stick of butter and a little salt and added it to the milks in your recipie with vanilla extract. It is out of this world and practically took any time to prepare. Thank you for sharing.
Good Luck on your new show and congradulations. I’ll be watching for more great recipies.
August 23rd, 2010 at 12:21 pm
Hey girly!!! I was screaming when I heard you won! So excited and had to stay up to watch your show..even recorded it!! Will be making that kale salad tonight for my friends!! Thank you for making such beautiful food so much easier!
I adore you and I can’t wait to keep watching
Thanks for making me believe that I too can achieve my dreams as a food blogger!

I watched your show yesterday and am now eager for next Sunday. I loved your mannerisms, the way you described the various ingredients. I’ve dabbled in Indian Cookery myself and you were spot on with your descriptions. I have now 2 inspirations that will rekindle my Indian food repertoire, you and Madhur Jaffrey. Until, next Sunday…
August 23rd, 2010 at 1:08 pm
Congratulations!! I am so happy that you won. I knew you would from the beginning. You were always on your A game. Im looking forward to your show. I love Indian food, and am looking forward to a fusion of American and Indian food.
If you are ever in Chiago, let me know. We’ll go to “Little India” on Devon Av. They have the best restaurants and shops.
Namaste!!
August 23rd, 2010 at 1:24 pm
I watched your show Sunday, and it was AMAZING!!! You are totally going to be a super-food network star!
August 23rd, 2010 at 3:26 pm
Dear Aarti,
How I so wanted to watch your first episode on FN, but I’m at church & don’t get home til about 1 p.m. every Sunday! Is there a way to see the 1st episode of Aarti Party online? I noticed Food Network doesn’t have it scheduled for rebroadcast this week, like they do with some of their other shows. If it was at 9 p.m. like NFNS was, that would be a lot more logical! Please let me know, since we barely have enough $ for cable & computer, we can’t afford more $ to be able to tape it while we’re at church. And your recipes have all worked out beautifully & delicious, the 3 that I have made so far. Can’t find black sesame seeds yet, but did find green cardamom pods. Wow, what a difference fresh-ground cardamom makes! It made me throw out my old jar of ground sawdust, I mean ground cardamom, because it had no flavor in comparison!
Girl, God bless you for your beautiful heart! Christ shines forth from you! Keep giving Father God all the glory. You are such a blessing and an inspiration.
August 23rd, 2010 at 4:24 pm
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY for Aarti! Bring it, Girl! We’ve been waiting for you to arrive with your spices in hand and turn us inside out with your recipes. WELL DONE, WOMAN!
Namaste,
Mary
August 23rd, 2010 at 4:36 pm
My husband and I watched and cheered for you all the way through!! I saw salt and light…I knew deep with me where that came from even before I read that you are a follower of Jesus.
I pray that the Lord will fling open the doors wide for you walk through with great favor, success, courage and peace.
I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord…plans to proper you and give you a hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Jesus bless you immeasurably!

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I am a 10-year-old Food Network fan! Aarti! I LOVE YOU!!!! I was rooting for you the whole time! The minute I saw you I wanted you to win! When you won I screamed! I also saw your first episode. It was great. I would totally make everything! Especially the ice cream pops! Yummy! By the way, I love all of the flowers you wear in your hair. My mom makes hair clips with flowers on them, and I would LOVE to send you one, since you wear hair flowers all of the time! Do you have any address that is linked to the Food Network? I would love to send you one.
August 23rd, 2010 at 7:35 pm
congrats aarti.. i watched you throughout the whole season and was routing for you from the start.. you brought flavor and spice to food network star.. wish you all the best..
August 23rd, 2010 at 7:42 pm
Aarti!!!!!! I have to say I fell in love with the concept of your show from day 1. I loved you. I loved your personality, your style, and I knew you would win. The Food Network most definitely needed a show about cooking Indian inspired foods. Congrats on your win! Woohoooo! I am so happy to see your show, in fact it will be on my tivo list. I hope that you will still be blogging. In fact you inspired me to keep up on my blogging. Anyway, I will be adding Aarti dishes to my collection of recipes
August 23rd, 2010 at 7:56 pm
YAY! CONGRATS! I wanted you to win pretty much from the beginning! I consider myself a foodie, and at the age of 28 I have never eaten Indian food. BUT, I love you so much, you not only inspired me to EAT it, but to COOK it! I chose tandoori chicken, and I LOVED it! AND my picky husband like it too. LOL I will definitely be making it again. (had it with naan and a tomato relish, and israeli cous cous) Thanks for the inspiration. = ) I am sad, I set my DVR to record your first show, and it didn’t for some reason. I need to go set it for the next one. Good luck on your successful road you have started. xoxo Sara

August 24th, 2010 at 7:09 am
Congratulations Aarti!
Like most people here, I saw you on the Food Channel competition, and was immediately drawn to your talent, beauty, and natural spark and energy. You have a real gift for connecting with people, and I’m so happy you won!
It’s just so fabulous to see a REAL woman win — not only one with a diverse cultural background, strong family connections, and a deep spritual base, but one who’s amazingly beautiful! And a refreshingly honest beauty — NOT another empty, plastic, artificial, scrawny and anorexic, Hollywood blonde. Bless the Food Channel for for focusing on substance and talent and TRUE beauty, not the shallow and warped conventions of what some isolated, narrow-minded marketing and fashion execs think is attractive!
After taking the time to get to know a little about you from this awesome blog, I also celebrate you for your multicultural roots, your fabulous REAL-ness, your religious convictions, your inspiring love and committment to your husband, and — of course — your talents as a chef. Your cooking ROCKS!
I wish you much success and blessing going forward! And may you make it through the minefield of media success without losing the true wonderfulness that is you! May you stay grounded in your faith and love for God; forever keep the love, support and strength of your husband; keep connected to the friends and family that have been there with you through all the tough years; and lastly, always revel and celebrate the inner joy and tremendous outer beauty that is you (you’re HOT!!!)!
Never let any negative energy sap you — You’re talented, beautiful, and you deserve to be successful! Rock on, Aartilla!!!
August 24th, 2010 at 9:04 am
Aarti, congratulations on your new show! I was a big fan of yours throughout the competition. I can’t wait to check out your show and hopefully see some gluten-free recipes on Aarti Paarti in the future!!
August 24th, 2010 at 9:29 am
Congratulations Aarti! I was rooting for you from the beginning and am really happy you won!
August 24th, 2010 at 10:41 am
How wonderful to witness your ‘win’ and enjoy your new show!! It’s been even more wonderful to see your heart for God, as well as your awareness of how fame/accolades can turn that heart away. I know this awareness will help you rely on Him more. I pray that you will daily spend time with Him, letting Him speak to your heart through His Word… As you acknowledge Him in your alone-time, I know He will direct you in the best way to navigate this new ‘world’ and season of your life. (Isaiah 48:17-19, Prov. 3:5-6)
August 24th, 2010 at 11:04 am
Forgot to mention this in my other comment… wondered if you have a prayer support base and spir. accountability- group? Think this may be extremely important to set up, even strategic, for what you shared about guarding your heart/staying on the path God has for you.
August 24th, 2010 at 11:19 am
Aarti!!!
I love you!!! That is all
Blessings,

Congratulations Aarti!!! My husband and I have been rooting for you the whole time… you won us both over from the get go and we are so happy to see you win!
So I had DVR’d your first episode of Aarti Party and I just got to watch it. I’ve got to know, where did you get the top you are wearing?? It is super adorable! I’m sure it’s probably from an amazing Food Network wardrobe closet or something but just in case it’s not… do tell where you got it!
Thanks and congrats again!!

I am so sad that I didn’t have your blog in my reader before NFNS, but I am SO grateful that you were on the show so that I get to read you now. I was heartily rooting for Team Aarti in my living room with my husband (sitting next to me playing on his iTouch) reassuring me that “they’ve already picked her to win, baby, calm down”. He only half-heartedly watched, and he knew you were the winner from the start. You were in our household at least! I am so happy and excited for you!
I watched the show (while eating homemade paneer!). I absolutely loved it, and I have a season pass on my TiVo. You looked so relaxed and natural.
It’s been a pleasure getting to know you, and I wish you all the best in your future successes!
August 24th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
Hi Aarti!
Just wanted to let you know you are an inspiration to my almost 7 year old daughter who wants to be a chef when she grows up! We’re Indian American and it was so cool for her to see someone like herself on TV. We watched religiously and were so hoping you would win! Now she wants to meet you…we’re going to be in San Diego/LA in October so can you post if you’re going to do any events/appearances? We would have totally come to the NY Food and Wine Festival but it’s the same day we’re flying out to San Diego!
Congratulations and stay just as you are….

Hi Aarti,
I was so happy to see you win. I knew you would. God has blessed you with a great personality that truly shines on camera. I feel like I know you and I enjoyed watching your journey. You sound very level-headed and that you know that the glory is given to God. If you continue knowing that He was the one in control, you will continue to shine throughout your life. I’m married with 3 children–16, 13, 9 and enjoy cooking and making new recipes. I never ate Indian food, but watching your pilot and your first show, I would welcome the change. I also liked and felt so comfortable watching your show because you made it possible that I could understand and relate to what you were saying. When you mentioned that Indian people cook a lot with tomatoes and tomato sauce, you got me because I’m Italian and of course use tomatoes all the time. It must be an awesome feeling. I wish you continued love and joy on your journey and remember that with God all things are possible. You proved that. Your show is fabulous and my kids and I enjoyed watching you. Is the taping done in LA or NY? We live in NY and wondered if they allow people to watch the taping of the show. My kids would get a kick out of it. We really enjoy the Food Network Channel. Well again, congratulations and much success!
Love, Francesca & family

Dear Aarti,
Congratulations!!!! A job well done!!! My kids (16,13 & 9) watched your journey to stardom and truly enjoyed it. Your personality is a true gift from God and knowing that you give Him the glory is wonderful. As long as you remember that on this incredible journey in your life, you will continued being blessed. We knew you would make it to the end. Your personality shines through the camera onto the screen and into our home. We feel that we know you and enjoy watching you cook easy meals using Indian spices. I never ate Indian food, but the way you describe it and make it simple yet interesting, I would be willing to try. I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. I love the way you make it easy to relate to your recipes. When you mentioned that Indian people use a lot of tomatoes and sauce, that made me very comfortable knowing that I use a lot of the same because I’m Italian. Continue doing that. What are the common Indian spices someone should always have on hand for most Indian recipes? Also, do you tape in CA or NY? We live in NY and if you tape your show here, I was wondering if we are able to come watch the taping of the show. My kids would love to meet you and see you cook and so would I. I wish you continued success, love, and joy during your journey. Remember, with God all things are possible. God bless you.
Love, Francesca & family

You also win for Best Smile! Congrats Aarti.
August 24th, 2010 at 2:14 pm
Hi Aarti,
I hope you check my blog which is just for fun though I was a top notch caterer in Los Angeles in the 80′s and 90′s now retired and living in Prescott AZ.
SUGGESTION:
To have Food TV flash up on the screen the Indian names of spices or ingredients that you mention such as garam masala – that would be soooooo helpful.
Best wishes to you – you deserve it.
August 24th, 2010 at 2:56 pm
Great going, girl! You have made us proud!!
August 24th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Congrats!
Saw the first episode of your show and now I’m hooked!
Love your ideas of making everyday foods with an Indian twist. Looking forward to much more and can’t wait to try the Pistachio Pops! They looked oh-so-good!
Good luck on your journey to stardom. You deserve it
August 24th, 2010 at 4:08 pm
Hi Aarti! Congratulations on becoming the Foodnetwork’s newest star! I admit that I didn’t follow the past seasons, but this one that just came and went recently, I followed it and enjoyed it! I’ve been a fan of yours from the beginning of the season! You lit up the television screen with your warm smile and personality, making your presence an inviting one that which I’m sure won the judges and all of America over.
Take care and best of luck to you! No one deserves it more than you.
August 24th, 2010 at 4:12 pm
Btw, I saw your very first episode of your new show ‘Aarti Party’, and I love it! I admit that though I’m not yet a big fan of Indian food (since my past experiences having it weren’t too pleasant). Your twist on adding the traditional with the modern is excellent. It inspires me to add my own twist in cooking as well…adding Filipino to whatever dish out there to add a little twist and pizzaz.
Will be tuning in this Sunday again for your show! Excellent job Aarti! Two thumbs up!
August 24th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
Bombay Sloppy Joes, here I come! Excellent first show, Aarti!
I wanna see a thigh slap at the end of at least one show.
I’m excited for you!…and for me since I’ll be a diligent student
Now, *question*
How would Aarti put an indian spin on Spaghetti?
August 24th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
I am an avid cook and was so looking forward to your show. Sloppy joes by any other name my goodness Please!!!!! I would not serve that to my friends. I want to see something that isn’t for a teenager to make, we have so many simple cooking shows I WANT MORE and I thought you might be it. Please step it up several notches.
August 24th, 2010 at 7:07 pm
Hi Aarti! We made your Sloppy Bombay Joes, and they were fantastic! I’ve never cooked with gram masala or fresh ginger before — but we loved all of the flavors!
Looking forward to making more of your recipes!
Also we’re so encouraged by your faith… keep shining!
August 24th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
AARTI!! YOU WON!! I am just barely catching up on Food Network Star, and I’ve been avoiding any spoilers because my heart would just have been too broken had you not won. I actually jumped up and did a dance around my living room when they announced the winner! haha
I’ve been cheering for you from the beginning and I cannot wait to watch your show, or make your recipes for that matter. I may even be blogging them myself on my own site soon.
So happy for you. You really earned this!
August 25th, 2010 at 6:57 am
YAY YOU WON!!! I was so happy the night of the finale. You did wonderfully and your show on Sunday was spectacular, the recipes look delicious. Congrats!
August 25th, 2010 at 11:23 am
Aarti, you were my favorite all along and I’m SO excited you won! I watched your pilot Sunday and everything looked delicious and you were so adorable!!! Having watched a bunch of your YouTube Aarti Paarti’s I couldn’t help missing your home kitchen. The set seemed so modern and cold and you’re so warm and homey! But your hair looked gorgeous (although I missed you flower
) and your shirt was really cute too! Anyway thought I’d say congrats and give my two cents about the set! Yay!!!
August 25th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
I don’t know why but I feel a connection with you, I know this will sound insane but I still cry when I watch your winning moment or even reading the emotions your experiencing as time progresses I get very emotional (in a good way). I want to tell you I have never been so excited for any other contestant and I truly love your show. May God continue to bless you and may you continue to show us your beautiful smile
August 25th, 2010 at 3:05 pm
Aarti I’m so happy you won The Next Food Network Star I was rooting for you all season long! Your so cute and I can’t wait to cook your recipes!!
August 25th, 2010 at 3:08 pm
P.S. love your accent!
August 25th, 2010 at 5:59 pm
Congratulations Aarti! A big hug to Food Network’s newest, cutest and most modest star! Your victory is well-deserved! I’m from Goa and settled in California, I’m so proud of you! You’re the first Indian-born person to make it through a reality show here! I knew from the first couple of episodes that you were going to win it, you’re a natural! I’m a big fan and will watch every episode of Aarti Parti! You go girl!
August 25th, 2010 at 7:50 pm
Aarti, congratulations! I knew all season long that you would be the winner, it didn’t surprise me at all when they unveiled your photo. But tell me why, oh why, is your show on SUNDAY at noon??!! Don’t you know that I have to go to church at that time? lol, oh well. I guess I’ll get Tivo one day so I can watch it.
August 25th, 2010 at 7:52 pm
Aarti, congratulations from Bellingham, WA!!! I am not a Food Network watcher but having recently returned from 6 years in Mexico a friend “made me” watch it and from the moment I saw you I KNEW you would have your own show! I watched every night, watched your struggle to keep yourself collected, and it was truly incredible to see. I also voted for you every day on the Food Network website. I am so happy for you, and for ME, because I will get to learn how to cook your delicious dishes…Indian food is my favourite in the world and I can’t wait to see your show! Many hugs and kisses and much happiness and success to you!
August 25th, 2010 at 8:02 pm
Congratulations again! I saw your first show and really enjoyed it. Can’t wait for more! It must be so exciting!
August 26th, 2010 at 1:23 am
Congrats, Aarti!!!!! And all you hold near and dear heart you no matter the distance or circumstance! Even though you NFNS brothers and sisters couldn’t make it, they love you all the same!!!!! Maybe they just couldn’t make it? Or their own final party! Gotta paarti it big time! Keep keepin’ it real…He loves you mucho!!!
August 26th, 2010 at 10:31 am
Aarti,
Love that you won the show and that you put you trust in God for the win. I really enjoyed you on the show and was quite impressed with the Iron Chefs’ reaction to your food. “You go girl”. I’m glad to see another woman of color and culture (not the usual) on Food Network. Keep the faith and never lose sight of where your strength comes from. God bless you & don’t get bogged down by the small stuff.
August 26th, 2010 at 11:47 am
Aarti, congrats and best wishes for a successful season.
I HAVE TO KNOW, where did you get that green top on the first show? As a matter of fact, where do most of your tops come from? I love them! Since email is required, if you want, you can just email me with some store/web names.
I loved your bombay joes show and look forward to more!
August 26th, 2010 at 7:05 pm
Hey Aarti,
like seriously i made scrambled eggs once and my dog wouldnt even eat it. Anyway i will keep watching ur show (which u should call a miracle cuz cooking shows can bore me to death sometimes) and love u! please respond but looking at all these comments i really dont think u can….
Im indian too and just from one episode of ur show i know some more about our culture’s food (which my mom says i should know already but what can i do now) anyway im only 13 so cant officially cook yet but i have been writing down ur recipes since i like combining american and indian (my two cultures) 2gether. I supported u on food nwtwork star the whole time and u dont know how happy my fam was that u won! I cant cook at all so i guess it makes up watching others
An adoring terrible cook fan,
Sayali
btw: i think ur really really pretty and will soon have a few more shows like bobby flay or rachel!
August 26th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
God I wish I could meet you! Your are amazing! Your personality really shines through, I will be watching every episode!
You are beautiful, intelligent, and great at what you do.
You really deserved to win. I Was rooting for you ever since the first episode xD
god bless
August 27th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
Congratulations!
I picked you as my favorite horse to win on episode one and was so glad you did. Food Network made the right choice and I look forward to seeing your show and learning how to incorporate some Indian twists into my favorite dishes.
August 27th, 2010 at 6:39 pm
Hi Aarti,
Congratulations and well done! I’m so happy for you! You were my favorite since the first episode and I was behind you the whole time. I cheered sports stadium-style (and subsequently scared my mom) when they announced you as the winner.
I will definitely watch your show as much as I can and will delight in soaking up the knowledge you share.
Keep smiling! You have a fan in Montreal and if you have the chance, please come and visit!
August 27th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
Dearest Aarti, You are so in touch, I can’t imagine that you’ll have a problem with ego-tripping. You are so real. So kind. It really comes through — from your presence on the air to your wonderful creative cuisine. I’m thoroughly pleased that you have your due notoriety. And what’s more, I’m totally psyched that I can learn from you — girlfriend!!!! Massaging that kale makes all the difference!! I wouldn’t have known. Just think, all these years I’ve been eating stiff kale salad. I made your kale-mango one the other night (your way of communicating is so refreshingly simple that I was able to make the recipe from memory) and it is now my most favorite. I want to make it for everyone who comes over. For that matter, anyone who happens to be walking down my street! “You must come in and try this Aarti salad!”
Cheers sweetie. I look forward to more food goodness. xoxo Sylvie
August 28th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
How refreshing it is to finally have a cooking show that has spice!!! So tired of the bland food! I have been watching you from the beginning of this season and prayed that you’d win. You are going places girl! Keep shining!
August 28th, 2010 at 5:09 pm
I was SO happy that you won ’cause I want to watch your show!
I love learning about the food from other countries and how to use it in things that we’re familiar with (Michael Smith here in Canada does a some of that on his show). And I don’t know a lot about Indian spices so I really look forward to learning from you!
Have to wait til it airs up here in Canada though…the finale of Next Food Network Star just aired and it’ll likely be at least a couple of weeks (maybe longer) before FN Canada airs the show.
*sigh*
August 28th, 2010 at 6:40 pm
I rooted for you throughout the season, and so happy you won! I watched your first show last week, and it was fabulous! You are so happy and bubbly and poised – and the food – wow! I want to make everything!
In fact I’m making your Massaged Kale Salad tonight for dinner (and I have never made kale anything before!). Can’t wait to see your next show tomorrow.
You make us all wish we were one of your girlfriends – or a neighbor!
Best,
Dalyn

I only just discovered NFNS a few weeks ago, on the day of the finale. It took me about two episodes into the marathon until I was rooting for you! Your show has been fabulous so far. I made the sloppy joes last night and they were INCREDIBLE! Aarti Party is now appointment television in my house. Thanks for bringing all this great food into my life, and congratulations on your success!
August 29th, 2010 at 1:11 pm
AARTI, WHAT CAN I SAY THAT EVERYOTHER PERSON HASN’T ALREADY SAID. YOU ARE A DELIGHT, A BEAUTIFUL PERSON AND THE LOVE YOU SHARE SHINES THROUGH IMMEDIATELY. WHAT A LOVELY, TALENTED AND LOVING PERSON YOU ARE. I HAVE NEVER HEARD SO MANY POSITIVE RESPONSES FOR ANOTHER PERSON….EVERYONE LOVES YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE A PERSON SO FULL OF LOVE…..HOW FORTUNATE WE ALL ARE THAT YOU SHOWED UP TO COMPETE, THE OTHER TWO WERE GREAT TOO BUT YOU ARE A SHINNING STAR. WHAT A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE YOU ARE FOR ALL OF US. WE WILL WATCH EVERY ONE OF YOUR SHOWS. I KNOW THAT FOODNETWORK.COM KNOWS THAT THEY REALLY LUCKED OUT WITH YOU. CONGRATULATIONS AARTI

Hi Aarti,
For some reason, I felt I need to leave this email. I have two little girls (ages 3 & 5) and we watched the challenges together. At the finale, they were jumping and shouting “aarti! aarti! aarti!” They were so cute rooting for you. They were so proud to have an Indian girl, and a Christian one at that (like them), win! Congratulations.

Rooted for you from the first epi of NFNS – so very, very delighted you won.
Now we’re so glad for the DVR … we’re still at church in the central time zone when your show comes on. You’re our after-church, post-lunch, pre-nap, cuddle on the couch Sunday afternoon show! Love the set and cannot wait to try your recipes.
Just know that you have so many fans in Nashville and know we are praying for your success on the Food Network … and beyond.
Many congratulations!
August 31st, 2010 at 12:37 am
I realize I am probably just adding one more thing for you to read, and maybe in a few months you can get to this message and if you are having a rotten day, it might put a smile back into your heart.
I have 4 children, 17, 13, and 11 year old twins. I am also not in the best of health anymore and doing whatever I can so that I can stick around until they are grown up. Your winning your show has given us a new family activity for Sunday’s. So far both meals have been wonderful, and we are looking forward to many more! Your win has been our win as well. Thank you so much!!!
Best of luck and much love,
Terri

Congratulations! Your new show is a exciting addition to the shows on the Food Network. There are infinite possibilities for expanding awareness of Indian cooking traditions and new ideas for all of us to cook with new spices on your Aarti Party show. Thank you for taking this chance and entering the contest! HOORAY for Aarti!!!
August 31st, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Totally thrilled when I searched your site for hummus to discover on that page you were on a Daniel’s Fast. I was looking for a recipe where I could fulfill my own Daniel’s Fast. What a coincidence and truly an inspiration to know that God has blessed you with your winning your own show. Praise the Lord! Might I suggest a show on restrictive diets where you can share the recipes you used for your fast. Been rooting for you since day one of the show. Congratulations and best wishes!!!
August 31st, 2010 at 8:25 pm
Congratulations Aarti! Just wanted to say that I made your chicken after your first show. So good. Thank you so much for the great recipe! I’ll make it again. But first I’ll enjoy the left over tomorrow. I wish you so much love and joy and I look forward to watching you each week. Have a lovely day!

I’ve just been reading your blog, and I just want to say that you definitely deserve winning this show. Congratulations. I only hope that if I’m ever in a hopeless situation like the one you’ve been commenting on your blog, I can have at least a bit of your faith in order to pull me through.
September 2nd, 2010 at 5:47 pm
I just saw the last episode of the Next Food Network today,(I’m behind, we moved and I had to Tivo it.) and I was elated that you won! I have been cheering for you since day one, CONGRATULATIONS! Love you!

September 4th, 2010 at 2:11 pm
A belated but heartfelt congratulations, Aarti. I feel rather like part of your tribe from before you got famous since I don’t watch TV but have followed your wonderful blog for awhile now. I knew the show probably had aired but admit I haven’t visited your site for awhile because I knew I would be upset if you didn’t win. BUT YOU DID!!! YAY!!! I know fame will change you but I really hope that what stays the same is your genuine devotion to those you care about, your focus and integrity around your food, and an obvious excitement about life. You are a joy to watch online. As I said before, I’ll buy your books and your videos.
September 7th, 2010 at 6:41 pm
Congratulations again, Aarti. A lot of the contestants were very talented, but you have a very special, irrefutable sparkle about you. Thank you for sharing that sparkle with the world!! xoxox
September 7th, 2010 at 6:58 pm
Congratulations – TFN couldn’t have picked a better winner! As a half-Indian (half-German) gal, I feel like your food and your show reflect MY heritage. My husband and I have been waiting for an Indian food (or Indian-inspired) show forever! I also want to say that you feel like a “new” Nigella Lawson to me – and Nigella is just my absolute heroine. The feel of your show, your recipes, your accent – it’s all reminiscent of her and yet unique to you. Classy, quirky… just plain good. Thanks!
September 8th, 2010 at 3:44 pm
Congratulations!!!!!!
I am sooooo happy. You were my pick from the start. Best wishes on your show, my favorite DVR show to watch.
September 25th, 2010 at 9:30 pm
Aarti, I am so excited you won. I told my husband in the first show you would win. You have the personality and the fabulous food to succeed. Someday I hope to see you soon as I just sent my NFNS application and video for the second year in a row. Wish me luck! Any words of wisdom?

September 28th, 2010 at 4:18 pm
I love the new show and your wonderful recipes I am hoping you will publish a cookbook soon. I live in a small town and can;t find Garam Masala so could you please put some diffrent recipes for it on the food network site or on this blog so that I can make my own. I would relly be most grateful because I have searched several Indian cookbooks at the bookstore and library and can’t find it. If you send your blog posts through e-mail also please add me to the list thanks. Keep up the good work.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:09 pm

If you want to buy a house, you would have to get the loans. Moreover, my mother always uses a credit loan, which is the most firm.
