Don’t you hate it when…
Posted by Aarti on July 13th, 2010 . Filed under: Uncategorized .…you spend nearly $13 on a gorgeous piece of salmon from the farmers market, excitedly create a tastebud-tingling glaze of pomegranate molasses and kecap manis (which a new friend gave you and you’re so excited about) which you baste the filet with, steam a side of chinese broccoli to go with it… but then manage to overcook the fish so it’s dry and flavourless, AND overcook the broccoli so it’s limp…
AGH!
Just so you know that even contestants on Food Network Star mess things up too. At least this one does. SO annoyed! I think I’m going to make salmon cakes with the remaining salmon.
UGH!

Argh, I totally hate when I do that! So discouraging.
But, I love you on Food Network Star!! I guess it is good to know even the ‘pros’ mess up sometimes too!

OMGosh! I know what you mean! It stinks to put so much into a dish, only for it to come out bad.

that just makes you even better next time. love your imperfectness.

lol – good to know it happens to the best of us *and* you still might be able to salvage the dry salmon into something yummy!

Thankfully, salmon isn’t one of my biggies being our freezer is still quite full from last catch. lol But when you are mouth watering over a dish, there is nothing worse than overcooking. Such a disappointment, even when others don’t notice.
BTW, I’d love to talk to you about ways to promote your site. You are definitely NOT using your traffic to your advantage girl

I first discovered kecap manis in Indonesia… never thought of combining it with pomegranate molasses, but those two flavors ought to really rock together!
Lately I’ve been doing salmon with a chimichurri sauce – lots of garlic and cilantro – and oven-roasting it. Deelish!

I hear you! Well, sort of… I was doing blackened asparagus the other night. I don’t like asparagus nor have I tried this recipe. So basically, I blanched the asparagus too long so it was mushy. Then, I put way too much cayenne in my spice mix to the point my girlfriend and I were choking on the fumes as it fried.
She was so sweet to say it was good. I don’t know…

as they say, “when life gives you lemons……make lemonade”. and when things go sour in the kitchen, some of the best recipes are made. take that salmon that got overcooked, mash it up with some pesto, and you got yourself a GREAT spread for bagels!!! Yummy!

Well that certainly makes me feel better, because if YOU can do it… maybe I shouldn’t be so hard on myself. I messed up rice once and I never made it again.
Noticed you have a samosa post – off to go check that out!

I’m so happy God wanted you to win the Next Food Network Star! It was fun watching. I don’t know why God didn’t want Brad to win. And I sure don’t know why God wanted my friend, a 45 year old father of 3 lovely daughters, to become stricken with stage IV stomach cancer. I also don’t know why he wanted thousands of Afghani women to be slaughtered. Well who cares about that…I mean, you won! God cares about the Food Network! It’s all Good! Thank you Father!
