Life-sized?

My sister, Kavita, has been so excited ever since she found out that I was on the show. I believe her exact reaction was at a pitch that only her dogs could hear. Isn’t that cute?!

Kuv is a couple of years younger than me, and lives in Phoenix. When the show premiered, she organized an elaborate viewing party, and she sent me this picture:

I have never, ever, seen my face this big before. Nor would I ever choose to have anyone see my skin this up close and personal!

At first, I went “eeks!”.

Then I calmed down, realised I was kicking sand in His eyes, and squealed. This is so frickin’ cool!

    Aarti:

My wife and I don’t have cable (because we know if we did, we’d never get any reading done), so we only ever watch Food Network (and tennis — the only other thing on television we’re interested in) when we’re on holiday. We recently saw the 3rd and 4th episodes of the show and are fixedly in your corner. We sought out your blog (and Food Network bio) and find ourselves even more fixedly in your corner — it’s wonderful to see a Christian in the public eye who is both so warm and delightful, and so forthright about her faith. Bravo. And to see that same person have SUCH good taste in novels and films! Pride and Prejudice (my wife’s preference, though I side with Sense and Sensibility), A Fine Balance, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Road, Magnolia, Monsoon Wedding, Spirited Away. Your food looks astonishing; your presence is astonishing. Good luck — we’ll be checking online each week to see where things stand with you and your future on the Food Network.

I know that you will start to believe in yourself more, and not just because everyone else does. I love the creativity and skill you show in the kitchen, and I hope that you have your own show so you can share even more of your passion for food.

Aarti! Just finished watching this weeks episode and felt like that was my friend on there – YOU!

Hey, I’ve got a great idea – I know you watch the NFNS show with friends, but how about watching it next week with ALOT of friends and do a live blog during the show?? That would be sooo fun!

  28. Molly

I’m totally rooting for you and hope that you are the next food network star. Although I agree with a previous poster that you’re already a star. My mouth waters when I see you cook. I have plans to make a trip to an Indian market soon so that I can try some of your wonderful recipes. Best of luck to you, Aarti!!

    Dear Aarti,
I never go writing comments on web pages. Never. Concider myself courteous yet a pretty tough customer critically. I work all the time and geek out to very few things these days. But I’ve gotta say I think you are terrific, vibrant, wonderous and In the case you do not take the grand prize in the show – though how is that possible!? – you will always be a winning presence. Best wishes to you and I can’t wait to endulge in some of your fine recipes soon.

    Sincerely, Craig

  34. Christine

  44. allison

My favorite show is the Next Food Network Star, and I SOOOO want you to win. You are so relaxed on the show and have a wonderful personality (and a super-cool accent!!!) which makes it all the more better! You also have a whole different take on your show, introducing Indian food (which I know nothing about) so I hope you can teach me more if you win! I hope you become the next Star, you can definitely do it!

  45. Sarah K.

That was nice of your sister! My sis would do something exactly like that. PS- I LOVE your hair! It’s so curly and pretty and i wish mine would do that! in some episodes you look like a supermodel!

  46. Val

I love you Aarti! You’re such a great example of turning the other cheek when someone is rude to you! We’re pulling for you, and will faithfully watch your Food Network show!

  47. Jennifer

You Are AMAZING!!! I NEED TO WATCH YOU ON THE FOOD NETWORK! I think my boyfriend is frightened as to how much I am in to your style! love it!!! Good luck!!!

  48. M Tisdale

I am hoping that you are not the next food network star……..and think about it…….your style and name are much more appropriate for a children’s show than an adult cooking show……..compared with Sugar or Giada, I think you have a long way to go in terms of creating a professional look that is appealing…..unfortunately also, the point of view is flat and one dimensional, with such a strong emphasis on curry and not much else………..very unamazing overall………

  49. Reena

    Hi Aarti,
I am huge fan .I am so hoping you would be next food network star,Its about time we have some indian food show on foodnetwork.by the way that is only channel i watch besides Hg tv,goodluck and best wishes……………..always

Go Aarti! My wife & I would love to see you win so we could watch your show. We tried your Green Chicken Curry tonight and loved it. We look forward to learning more from you.

  51. Gwyndolyn G.

Aarti, i have to say i was super excited to see you on The Next Food Network Star, and i so hope that you win! I myself am in love with indian food and will most definitely keep looking into your website. Although being vegetarian there will be some modification, it would be crazy awesome if you put some veggie friendly recipes on the website.
    Best of Luck!!

  52. kiran v

    Arti,
You were great in the kitchen stadium. Best of luck next week. In our eyes, you are next food network star. Best of Luck. It’s about time we get a good Indian food show on the food network.

  53. Susan and Rosemary

My 8 yr old daughter and I have turned this into our mother and daughter bonding time. We really enjoy watching your cooking skills and your charisma on TV. You set a good example to look the other way and not bad mouth anyone on TV regardless on their behaviour towards you. That character is very appealing and rare to find. We hope you go all the way and become the next food network star. We surely see the star presonality in you. Hoping the judges see it our way. You have motivated us to cook Indian dinners almost every night.

  54. Lyndsey

    Aarti,

I’m so glad to see you competing on the show. Your smiles and laughter really make cooking fun. You’ve been my favorite since day one and I cheer every time you get great comments at the evaluation. I hope you win in the end because Food Network really needs someone like you to make the channel even more fun than it is. Thank you for introducing us all to Indian spices and ways of incorporating them into our regular meals. I love desi food more now that I know how what to buy on my own instead of buying boxed Tikka seasonings. I can’t wait for more blogs and for your own show to appear.

Keep your chin up during your rough days. We are all behind you!

    Lyndsey
